It is well connected by all weather roads with other towns in Himachal Pradesh. The nearest Rail Station is at Pathankot / Chakki Bank in Punjab State. The bus takes 3 Hours from Pathankot to Dalhousie. It is at a distance of 490 KM and 336 KM from Delhi and Shimla respectively. The area is consisting of 5 small hills i.e. Kathlog, Potrcyn, Tehra, Bakrota and Balun, on the Shivalik and Dhauladhar ranges. General description : Lord Dalhousie, the then Governor General of Punjab (1848-56), was the founder of this hill town. The land was purchased from the king of Chamba in 1853 for setting up of a health resort and army camp. The town was also named as Dalhousie. The Municipality was operational in 1867. The town was made so beautifully that it is regarded as one of the best hill town in the country till today. The surroundings are full of Oaks, Rhododendrons, Deodars, Pines and different types of fruit trees & flowers. The scenic beauty is enchanting. Dhauladhar is one side and Pir Panjal of Kashmir on other side. The snow capped peaks on the north and plains of Punjab on the south -west. The rain fall is about 1450 mm. The temperature varies from 15 to 23 degree Celsius in summer and dips to 10 to 1 deg. Celsius in winter. Snow fall occurs in January. As such, the climate at Dalhousie remains salubrious most of the time. In summer, the place is flooded with tourists from all over the world. Several buses including Semi-deluxe and Deluxe buses ply between Simla and Dharamsala. But, there are only two buses ply between Dharamsala and Dalhousie. Comparatively more buses are available from Kangra (On the bus route of Simla-Dharamsala) for Dalhousie.
