ELBRUS EXPEDITION TRIP NOTES Trips 2 and 3 2018

Elbrus Expedition 2018 Trips 2 and 3 5,642m / 18,506ft Trip Notes July 30 - August 10, 2018 August 11 22, 2018 All material Copyright Adventure Consultants Ltd, 2017-2018 These Adventure Consultants Mount Elbrus Expeditions ascend the mountain in a relatively quick time frame. The trips differ from our first Elbrus Expedition (July 16-29, 2018) because they are only 12 days long and start and finish in Moscow, rather than also taking in St Petersburg. How the Expeditions Operate Mount Elbrus is a giant dormant volcano which separates Europe from Asia in Russia s Caucasus Range. We begin and finish both trips in Moscow. From there we fly south to Mineralnye Vody on the edge of the Caucasus, this is followed by a short drive through the beautiful tree covered valleys into the mountains themselves. We base ourselves from hotels in the Baksan Valley and partake in daily acclimatisation hikes with good food and pleasant surroundings to help us enjoy the region. After several days we move into the high mountain huts for more training followed by the ascent itself. We have included several contingency days to allow for inclement weather and our proven ascent program assures a very high chance of success. We stay in hotels, lodges and huts to avoid the need for tents so you can simply bring along a sleeping bag and your climbing gear and enjoy the climb! Attaining a relatively high elevation at 5,642m or 18,506 feet, Elbrus certainly demands respect for its altitude and we deliberately focus on climbing high each day and sleeping low to facilitate effective acclimatisation. As with any foray to high

altitude, it is imperative that expedition members are fit and strong and in good health. Once the climb is finished we ll return to the valley floor for celebrations, and then return to Moscow. Itinerary Elbrus Expedition 2018 Trips 2 and 3: 12 Day Program Dates: July 30 August 10, 2018 August 11 22, 2018 Day 1: Day 2: Day 3: Arrive Moscow. Transfer to Hotel. Team meeting, welcome dinner and gear check. Two-hour flight to Mineralnye Vody (Caucasus). Three-hour bus ride to a hotel in the Baksan Valley. Overnight stay in Hotel. Acclimatisation ascent (using ski lifts) of Cheget Mountain (3,600m). Overnight stay in the hotel. Day 4: 4WD to a waterfall (2,700m), acclimatisation hike to Ice Camp (3,700m). Return to the hotel. Day 5: Day 6: Day 7: Day 8: Day 9: Ride ski lifts. Acclimatisation hike. Overnight stay in the newly renovated Islam Hut (3,900m) on the slopes of Elbrus. Acclimatisation hike to the Obelisk, return to the hut. Acclimatisation hike to Pastukhov Rocks, return to the hut. Summit day. Leave the hut about 3 am for the climb of Elbrus' west summit (5,642m). Overnight in the hut. Reserve day for climbing Elbrus. Overnight in the hut. Day 10: Spare summit day, descend to the valley and return to the hotel. Day 11: Day 12: Drive to Mineralnye Vody and fly back to Moscow. Overnight in hotel. Trip ends, depart Moscow. Note: We also have a longer Elbrus ascent starting in St Petersburg and finishing in Moscow, which includes sightseeing in both cities. See our Elbrus Trip # 1, July, 16 29, 2018.
