How your help will make a difference As an events volunteer you will be giving your time and skills to help take care of our hostelling network. Your support will help conserve and improve our hostels to make them a more enjoyable space for our visitors. Events offer a hands-on way to volunteer. They are perfect for people that don t mind getting physical, getting stuck in and sometimes even getting a bit mucky! Taking part in an event is a perfect way to give your time to our charity, meet like-minded people, and get some great volunteering on your cv! Who can help? Volunteer events are open to anyone who is: Over the age of 17 years Is able to travel independently to and from the volunteering location Enjoys supporting in a team environment Likes completing hands on practical tasks Is willing to give their time to complete a practical project Getting help with travel costs Volunteers can claim back help with travels costs of 12.50 per day up to a maximum of 55 (for 5 days or more of consecutive volunteering). Reimbursement is claimed via the completion of a Volunteer Expense Claim Form, and is paid via BACS in to the nominated bank or building society account. Free accommodation Accommodation is available at every event for volunteers for free, for the duration of their volunteering. The accommodation provided is in shared (single gender dormitories).
Help with food costs Volunteers are able to use the self-catering kitchen to store food and prepare their own meals during their volunteering, or will be able to purchase meals from the hostel at a reduced rate of 2 per course. What will I be doing? Whether it is painting rooms, tidying an overgrown garden or helping to spruce up communal areas with a detailed clean- the choice of where you go and what you do is in your hands! If you read on, this guide tells you what will be happening at each event in more detail. As well helping outdoors, help is also needed indoors with giving rooms a very thorough spring clean. From Windermere catch the 555 bus to Keswick. Grasmere is about halfway between Windermere and Keswick. The 555 bus will drop you off in the centre of the village. The 508 bus runs to Patterdale, Mon-Fri in winter. area every evening, and can store luggage at the hostel on the Sunday to enable them to spend the day exploring the Liverpool. Plenty of tea and cake will also be served through the week to keep volunteer spirits up! The nearest bus and train station is in Windermere, which is a 40 minute (uphill) walk to the hostel. You can take the 555 bus from Windermere, which drops you off at the bottom of a hill, near the hostel. A taxi from the station is 7.00.
