No, not all that government stuff, but the FUN Election Time Newark Ski Club Annual Board Members Election. This year s meeting will be held at Harbor Hills on Tuesday, April 7th, 2015. The Board will be providing the food for this Indoor Picnic; there will be multiple types of sandwiches, fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, deviled eggs (OH YEAH!!), tomatomozzarella salad, chips, and a Fiesta dip. What we want from you is to bring a few of your FAVORITE COOKIES! Oh, and of course, yourself. Your presence is needed to vote on who will be helping to run this amazing club for the next year or two. The Vice President and At-Large positions are for 1 year and the Activities, Membership, & Secretary positions are each a 2 year term. Now, if you are unable to attend the meeting this year, please print out a copy of the Ballot on page 4, fill it out, and mail it to the Newark address above by April 6th. Or you can put your decisions into an email & send it to me at nscnewsletter@rocketmail.com. While everyone who is running is running unopposed, it is still important that we have a quorum & marked ballots (it s in our Constitution!), so please come out for the food & do your civic duty. And if you can join the Board, PLEASE DO!!!!! OVSC Summit Happy Hours Prez Sez......... Spring has arrived?!? Wow, what a winter! Well, we didn't want to let go either. On March 22nd, we were able to ski on the 101st day that Snow Trails was open this season. 101 days of skiing! I checked and Kip Bowman had gone skiing 50 times, while other members were not that far behind. But now it's time to change seasons and our thinking as well. Thanks to our amazing, outgoing Activities Director we have plenty going on this summer. Please check the enclosed articles to find out what is being offered; meanwhile the Board is always open to new ideas. On that note, it's hard to believe it is once again time to choose the new board for the Newark Ski Club. We need to have as many members attend and vote at the April meeting. Since the club is providing a picnic dinner and drinks will be flowing from the bar, you have absolutely NO EXCUSE for missing a fun Tuesday night out! Now is your chance to stepup, volunteer and support the club we all love so much! We are going to one of our old favorite Ski Club Party Places for the weekend- "Saunders". This is going to be a Rock and Roll Weekend with the Presence of "Elvis Presley." We are planning a lot of fun events and you may dress as Elvis and for the ladies, you may dress as one of the women from any Elvis movie. There will be a costume contest, with prizes for the "Best Dressed". This will be on Friday night at our Elvis Dinner along with our Famous "Wine and Cheese Party. We will also be serving Elvis's favorite alcohol drinks, along with singing Elvis songs. We are going to get to act like we are still "teenagers"; so join us for a weekend of Fun, Food, Fellowship, and, oh yeah! some Wine. We also will be doing Golf and Bike Riding on Saturday morning, before going to a winery in the afternoon. Saturday evening we are planning to go to a place downtown so we can all dine together, but at "your own expense". As we all know this is a Party Island, so please come PARTY WITH US!! We feel that this trip is going to fill up fast, so come to the April meeting to get more info. We have a limited space for 36 People, thus we need you to please sign up at the April 7th meeting with your $50.00 deposit per person. Or call and send in your deposit ASAP. This first payment/ deposit must be received no later than the May 5th membership meeting. Your deposit is fully refundable until July 1st at which point part or all may be forfeited unless you find your own ski club member to replace you on the trip. We will have much more info for you later. Trip Chairpersons: Beth Swick: 614-316-8483 & Nancy Channell 740-501-5234 TRUMPET IN THE LAND An Outdoor Drama performed at the Schoenbrunn Amphitheatre in New Philadelphia, Ohio Saturday, August 8th @ 8:30p Wr itten by Pu litzer pr ize -winning playwright Paul Green, "Trumpet in the Land" is an unforgettable experience that brings to life the Ohio frontier during the Revolutionary War. Performed in the same hills from which this story is born, Trumpet is a thrilling and passionate story of a peaceful people's influence on the war and the tragic events that encircled the founding of Ohio's first settlement, Schoenbrunn. For more information check-out the web site www.trumpetintheland.com. Charlie Voss will be your trip leader for this fun event. He is currently developing some options for those adventurous NSC members who sign-up for this activity. Since New Philadelphia is about an hour and a half from Newark we are exploring a trip package that would include overnight lodging and plans to visit some area wineries Saturday or Sunday OR BOTH! Performance tickets themselves retail for $20/each, but we may qualify for a discount if we go as a group. There will be a sign-up sheet at the April Election Night Dinner Meeting. We expect to have more details for you that night as well. If you cannot make the meeting, please let Charlie know that you are interested in going to this great vie of early American & Ohio History! We will have our own private boat tour on the Queen of the Lake to visit the historic Cranberry Bog State Nature Preserve. You ll want to see and experience this unique phenomenon before it is gone forever. We will learn about the history of the bog, and observe how the lake surrounds the bog, making Cranberry Bog the only known occurrence of its kind in the world. We will meet between 3:00 and 3:15 PM at the North Shore Boat Launch and Park located on SR 79 in the Village of Buckeye Lake. Cost is $10 per person (unless we have less than 10 people in which case it is $15/pp). Following our boat tour we will adjourn to the Buckeye Lake Yacht Club for a Happy Hour with dinner available. This is a private club so take this opportunity to enjoy the lakeside setting. You need not attend the boat tour to join us at the Happy Hour, but we WILL need a solid estimate of how many will be attending, so let Trip Leader Ann Oliver know if you plan to be there. We know there are currently many issues with Buckeye Lake, but the tour operator is optimistic that she will be able to continue these informative events. The NSC Board is electing to continue planning this activity, wanting to support local business owners and the community through this difficult time. If the boat tour were to be cancelled we will still proceed with the Happy Hour at the Yacht Club. Happy Hours thru June April s Happy Hour will be held in Newark at the new Tequilaville on Church St. on Friday April 24th, which has been suggested by a few members and also donated, so two birds one giant margarita! Now this will be on the 4th Friday of the month due to other things I need to do on the previous Fridays (it s good to be the one doing the planning!!). In May, we will be going back to an old favorite we like to visit during the Spring Hidden Lakes Winery in Canal Winchester. We ve never had a bad time out on their patio overlooking the pond & it s water spray. This is a great place to rest & relax inside the city. Then, in June, we will return for some more fun at the Wishmaker House Winery in Belleville. So, get Happy, Hour that is ;~}
