Once again the Festive season is upon us. It has been another busy year at Henderson s with lots of new developments. We are delighted to have picked up several awards at national craft butchers competitions this year, including gold awards for our pork & stilton sausage and rack of lamb with herb crust. Our gluten free black pudding received a silver award. All the gluten free products, including sausages, haggis and black pudding are proving extremely popular with both coeliac and regular customers alike. Many of the customers we speak to are often looking to reduce gluten in their diet as a life style choice. The backbone and life blood here at Henderson s continues to be the dedicated team working tirelessly across all areas of the business. This includes the butchers and delicatessen staff at the shop and the chefs and bakers in the kitchen at Blantyre. The new trainee butchers that have been appointed this year are all progressing well with their training. An accredited assessor from Scottish Meat Training regularly visits to monitor and record the progress of each trainee as they work towards achieving their craft butchery certificate. We are pleased that so many of our customers now regularly place their order through the online shop and enjoy the benefit of a delivery direct to their home or office. The evening delivery service suits so many of our customers who cannot reach the shop through the working day. We deliver using our own chilled vehicles throughout Lanarkshire and Glasgow five evenings a week. Josh Sandford (a Scottish boxing Champion) receives his monthly protein pack from Andrew So no reason not to eat healthily and enjoy your favourite meat products throughout the year, not just over the festive period! We will continue with our initiative of awarding a local athlete Henderson s sports person of the month. The local athletes are nominated by customers and can come from a range of sporting backgrounds. The protein pack contributes towards their individual dietary requirements essential to achieving their sporting goals. Our extra lean protein and slimmer s packs have also proven extremely popular this year with customers looking to stay on a healthy diet plan but still enjoy their favourite meat products. The Slimmer s extra lean sausages are also proving extremely popular providing the flavour and texture we all love with less than 2% saturated fat! At our farm in Strathaven the lambs born in the spring are now enjoying that extra rationing of home grown hay and grain now that we are in the depths of winter. These texel cross lambs are renowned for the flavour and fine textured tender meat. Although I personally think the flavour is also influenced with the lambs being reared on the good permanent pasture that we are fortunate to have in the Avondale area. The shoulder of lamb is often an under rated cut with customers favouring the leg for roasting. The shoulder is very economical and makes a fabulous slow roast providing a good hearty midweek dish on those cold winter evenings.
