Every year, May 9 th celebrates the birth of the European Union. It was back in 1950 when Robert Schuman, Foreign Minister of the French Government, made his famous statement: World peace can be safeguarded only through creative efforts, proportional to the dangers which threaten it. The contribution which an organised and living Europe can give to civilization is indispensable for preserving peaceful relations ( ) Europe cannot be built only once, nor will it be built all together; it will arise from concrete realisations, creating first of all de facto solidarity ( ) This year, the town of Rimini will be hosting, from May 5 to May 9, Hundreds of students coming from high schools of the member countries of the European Union, and of other countries as well, giving them an opportunity to meet and to get to know people of their same age from Rimini, and to celebrate the birth of the European Union together. Some students will be hosted by families, others in hotels, but they will all meet together to compare and share ideas on the topics of the European Constitution - Extension - Foreign Policy and Europe s role in the world - European Citizenship. For the young people and the schools taking part, this initiative represents a unique opportunity, not only for study but also for life, in order to share and compare knowledge, experience, sensitivity and feelings important and decisive issues and scenarios which have to do with them and which impinge closely on them, and on which much of their future depends. During this sojourn, ideas, emotions, desires and dreams of the young protagonists of the new Europe will be collected, and at the end a document will be approved which will be delivered to the community bodies and spread through the European schools. The simultaneity of various events will afford the young people a chance to choose the alternatives which meet their tastes and interests and to acquire new knowledge and opportunities. The initiative is promoted by: Emilia-Romagna Regional Government Legislating Assembly - European Commission, Delegation in Italy - European Parliament, Delegation in Italy - Province and Municipality of Rimini - Regional School Office for Emilia-Romagna - CSA of Rimini In partnership with: APT Emilia-Romagna, Convention Bureau della Riviera di Rimini - Fondazione Fellini - Alma Mater Studiorum Polo di Rimini, Fine Arts Academies of Italy - Meeting for Friendship Among Peoples 1
