Alpine Thayne Afton Three rivers converge and form the beautiful PALISADES RESERVOIR. The area offers "BLUE RIBBON" trout fishing and is home of the legendary "GRAND SLAM." It is heaven for avid fishermen. H i-li ' - Afton is home of the "WORLD'S LARGEST ELKHORN ARCH," a favorite photo spot. Just a few miles east of Afton you will find the "WORLD'S LARGEST INTERMITTENT SPRING." This is one of nature's wonders, it is also called Periodic Spring. See the photos in this brochure for more details. In addition to three great rivers, Alpine is sur rounded by three National Forests. Thayne is the very first place that cutter races were held. It is now the home of the "ALL AMERICAN CUTTER RACES." BUTCH CASSIDY and his gang wintered at the Davis Ranch near Auburn. The large snowfalls made the Davis Ranch a safe place to "hole up." Butch Cassidy was eventually cap tured in April of 1892 and served about a year and a half in prison for horse theft. Visit Star Valley for more history on Butch Cassidy. Every summer Afton hosts the LINCOLN COUNTY FAIR. This is an old-fashioned country fair that provides fun and entertain ment for the whole family. Star Valley has been making history for years. The local airplane factory produces world famous aerobatics craft. Thayne is home for the CHEESE FACTORY. Public tours are offered as well as free samples. UBiS Alpine is abundant with wildlife and home for a NATIONAL ELK REFUGE. It is not uncom mon to see a thousand elk (wapiti) on the winter feeding grounds. To the observer, it appears that the spring is manually being turned on and off. The Periodic Spring can be accessed by traveling east on 2nd Avenue in Afton and then driving 5 miles east along Swift Creek.
