There are two village tributes in Ulcombe near Maidstone. The first is the war memorial located in the parish churchyard. The second tribute is a brass memorial plaque hanging inside the parish church. The Ulcombe war memorial was not an easy transcription due to incorrect and corrupt data being placed on the memorial. NEVE A No Trace - This man s name only appears on the Ulcombe civic war memorial in the churchyard. It does not appear on the brass plaque inside the church which is odd. EDWARDES O This officers name does not appear on the village tribute but there is a private family memorial in the parish church Second Lieutenant Owen EDWARDES. 2 nd Battalion, King s Royal Rifle Corps (K.R.R.C). Died 30 th June 1916. Age 22. Born 6 th May 1894. Son of Lieutenant Colonel The Honourable Cuthbert Edwardes (The Rifle Brigade) and Lady Blanche Edwardes. Commemorated on the Arras Memorial, Pas de Calais, France. Bay 7. Officers Died Great War lists Owens s date of death as the 1 st July 1916, as does the Commonwealth War Graves Commission probably indicative of his demise occurring on the night of 30 th June/1st July. GIBSON K NOT COMEMORATED ON THE ULCOMBE WAR MEMORIAL This civilian casualty is buried in the Ulcombe churchyard but her name does not appear on the parish tribute.
