Itinerary The Best of Spain & Portugal Day 1, Friday: USA- BARCELONA Early evening departure on your transatlantic flight to Barcelona. Dinner, movie, and breakfast on board. Day 2, Saturday: BARCELONA Arrival at Barcelona airport. You will be transferred to your superior category 4* hotel. Rest of day is at leisure. A Welcome Dinner with wine is included tonight. Overnight in Barcelona. Day 3, Sunday: BARCELONA CITY TOUR Buffet breakfast. Today we will visit one of the most beautiful and vibrant cities of Spain. On this tour we will give you a quick overview of Barcelona s main highlights: Plaza de Cataluña, Via Laietana, the Cathedral and its cloister, Gothic Quarter, Plaza Sant Jaume (Generalitat and Town Hall), Villa Olimpica (athletes residential complex during the Olympics) and Port Olympic (Olympic Harbor). Entrance fees to Gaudi s Sagrada Familia are also included with this exciting tour. Dinner with wine at a local restaurant. Overnight in Barcelona.
Day 4, Monday: BARCELONA-ZARAGOZA-SAN SEBASTIAN-BILBAO Buffet breakfast. Departure for old Aragon and into the proud city of Zaragoza. Pause downtown in a main plaza where you will have free time to visit the impressive Basilica of El Pilar. Continue on to the north coast and the beautiful Basque Country, arriving to the beautiful Basque city of San Sebastian for a city visit. Then on to Bilbao. Dinner with wine at your hotel. Overnight in Bilbao. Day 5, Tuesday: BILBAO-SANTILLANA-COVADONGA-OVIEDO Buffet Breakfast. Morning city tour of Bilbao including a visit to the Guggenheim Museum. Afternoon departure to Cantabria and the nice and small town of Santillana del Mar, very well preserved with a unique medieval ambiance. Lunch is on your own in Santillana today before heading to los Picos de Europa, one of the most spectacular landscapes of Spain, to visit the shrine of Covadonga. This evening we spend the night in Oviedo, the capital of Asturias. Dinner with wine at your hotel. Overnight in Oviedo. Day 6, Wednesday: OVIEDO SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA Buffet Breakfast and panoramic tour of Oviedo before leaving for the Galician city of Santiago de Compostela. In the afternoon guided tour of the old city of Santiago and its beautiful Cathedral. Dinner with wine at your hotel. Overnight in Santiago. Day 7 Thursday: SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA VIGO GUIMARAES - BRAGA PORTO Buffet breakfast. Departure toward the Galician south coast and the city of Vigo, then crossing the Portugal frontier we arrive to Guimaraes and Braga two nice and historic cities of the north of Portugal. Day 8, Friday: SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA VIGO VIANA DO CASTELO PORTO Buffet breakfast. Departure toward the Galician south coast and the city of Vigo, then crossing the Portugal frontier we arrive to the town of Viana do Castelo in the mouth of the Lima Rive,r with its historic center and castle. Day 9, Saturday: PORTO COIMBRA - FATIMA OBIDOS LISBON Buffet breakfast and departure to the quaint university city of Coimbra and the famous shrine of Fatima. Lunch on own in Fatima and on to the charming medieval walled village of Obidos, with some time for a stroll around before continuing to Lisbon. Tonight,we will enjoy a typical Fado Portuguese folklore music Show & Dinner. Overnight in Lisbon Day 10, Sunday: LISBON, SINTRA & CASCAIS Buffet breakfast. Morning tour of this ancient and lovely city overlooking the Tagus River. Admire its splendid avenues and monuments like the Tower of Belem and the Jeronimos Monastery. Departure toward the Spanish border with a stop in the ancient Roman city of Merida to admire the impressive Roman Amphitheatre archaeological site. Continue to Madrid in the early evening and enjoy an Illuminated Madrid drive through the bustling streets of the old city, ending at the historical and impressive Plaza Mayor. This area is home to some of the most typical restaurants and taverns, which serve the delicious "tapas". We will enjoy a TAPAS dinner with wine in a typical restaurant. Return to your hotel at your own convenience. Overnight in Madrid. Day 12, Tuesday: MADRID & TOLEDO Buffet breakfast. This morning's escorted sightseeing tour of Madrid will allow you to get a glimpse of the most outstanding attractions, like the Puerta del Sol, the magnificent fountains of Neptune and Cibeles, the stately Alcala Gate, the busy Gran Via, the Plaza de España, and the Plaza de Oriente. In the afternoon, we will take you to the Imperial former capital city of Toledo, where you will be escorted through its narrow cobblestone streets, soaking up the medieval atmosphere. Touring will include the interior of the magnificent Gothic cathedral
