ABOUT SARAWAK Sarawak, situated at the northernmost end of Borneo Island southeast of Singapore and at 124,450 KM 2, is the largest state in Malaysa. Two-third of the State are forested with a scenic coastline of 720 kilometers. Asia s earliest inhabitants was found here 40,000 years ago. Sarawak was part of the Sultanate of Brunei some 200 years ago and was Ceded to Sir James Brooke, as a reward for helping the Sultanate in putting down the rebellion. Sir James Brooke was appointed Rajah by the Sultan of Brunei in August 1846. The Brooke s family ruled Sarawak for a hundred years and became famous as the White Rajah. It became a British Crown Colony in 1 st July 1946 until 1963. In 16 th September 1963, Sarawak together with Sabah, Singapore and the Federation of Malaya form Malaysia.. 1

The People of Sarawak Sarawak is the most diverse state in Malaysia with 27 ethnic groups making up its population of 2.17 million people. The Iban live by the coast, who were once the head-hunters are most populous group, the Bidayuh live further inland. The Chinese are the second most populous follow by the Malay. Other indigenous includes Orang Ulu. A group of people make up of Kayan, Kenyah, Kelabit, lun Bawang, Lun Dayeh, Penan, Sab n and many more. Intermarriages are common without diluting cultures. The many characteristics of Sarawak make it an intriguing place to visit. Location Between latitudes 0 0 50 and 5 0 N and longitudes 109 0 36 and 115 0 40 East. Some say the name Kuching is named after kuching River whereby the river bank was once filled with locan longan trees (Mata Kuching Cat s eye in Malay). Others believe it was name after gujin meaning old well in Chinese. The Main Bazaar is a row of old shophouses date back to the early 1800 and was used to Kuching trading center. Day 2 Semenggoh Wildlife/Sarawak Cultural Village (B) In the morning, proceed to tour the Semenggoh Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre to watch orang utan (jungle people in Malay language) that are either found orphaned/injured in the jungle or rescued from captivity. The orang utan are then trained in the centre to survive in the forest reserve. Watch them during feeding time. (sighting not guarantee). Afternoon, proceed to Sarawak Cultural Village at the foot of Mt. Santubong. Bako is well known for its incredible biodiversity from pitcher plants to bearded pigs, proboscis monkeys. Bako National Park offers a number of walking & trekking trail through peat swamps, rainforest and pleateau. MULU NATIONAL PARK (UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE) Gunung Mulu National Park near Miri, Sarawak, Malaysian Borneo, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that encompasses caves and karst formations in a mountainous equatorial rainforest setting. The national park is named after Mount Mulu, the second highest mountain in Sarawak. Gunung Mulu National Park has the largest known natural chamber or room - Sarawak Chamber, found in Gua Nasib Bagus. It is 2,300 feet (700 m) long, 1,300 feet (396 m) wide and at least 230 feet (70 m) high. It has been said that the chamber is so big that it could accommodate about 40 Boeing 747s, without overlapping their wings. The nearby Deer Cave is one of the largest single cave passages in the world, if not the largest. Other notable caves in this area are Wind Cave, and Clearwater Cave; which contains parts one of the world's largest underground river systems and is believed to be the largest cave in the world by volume at 30,347,540 m³. 3D 2N MULU SHOW CAVES Day 1 Deer & Lang Caves (Lunch /Dinner) 0950hrs - Arrive in Mulu Airport by morning flight, transfer to resort for check in. A short briefing by the guide or tour coordinator. 2.15pm Transfer to Mulu National Park Headquarter. Depart from the Mulu National Park Headquarters and walk along the 3.8KM wooden plank to Deer & Lang Caves. 5.30pm back from the caves and sit back and relax to wait for the bats to come out of Deer Cave at the Bats Observatory. Trek back to the Mulu National Park Headquarter at around 6.30pm. Return to the resort. Dinner at resort s Wildflower restaurant with Cultural Performance daily at 8.00pm. Overnight at the resort. Day 2 Wind & Clearwater Caves (B/Packed Lunch/Dinner) 8.30am After breakfast at resort, depart to the Penan settlement at Batu Bungan by longboat for abot 30 minutes depending on water level. Later, Take another boat ride to the Wind Cave jetty follow by another short boat Clearwater Cave. 12.30pm back to the resort. Free at own leisure. Dinner at the resort. Overnight at the resort.
