Initial Training Perid: Vietnam Airlines prvides htel accmmdatin (fr 27 nights) and grund transprtatin t and frm training (n fees are payable during this time unless yu receive yur CAAV Licence and cmmence line training within this time, in which case the Line Training rate applies); Line Training Rate This daily rate will apply frm the day yu receive yur CAAV Licence r validatin (start f Assignment Perid ) and cmmence line training r frm day 28 (whichever is the earlier). This rate is paid until the cmpletin f line training (being successfully checked t line) r fr a maximum f 30 days frm the start f the Assignment Perid (whichever is earlier). Mnthly Base Fee: This rate will apply fllwing the cmpletin f the Line Training Rate perid tgether with the applicable allwance, (nted abve) fr the remainder f the cntract term. Please nte: Thse accepted as TRI/TRE will be paid the LTC Allwance until being endrsed as a TRI by the CAAV first, befre prgressing t TRE. TRI/TRE Allwance: Frm the day after the CAAV has apprved yu t fly as either a TRI (step 1) r TRE (step 2), yu will receive the mnthly TRI r TRE allwance utlined abve in additin t the Mnthly Base Fee. If yu leave Vietnam Airlines at any time befre the end f yur cntract perid, then yu are required t give 62 days ntice and pay the fllwing early terminatin csts: (a) 90% f yur currently mnthly fee payment if yu leave prir t the cmpletin f 12 mnths service; (b) 60% f yur current mnthly fee payment if yu leave after 12 mnths service but befre the cmpletin f 24 mnths service; (c) 30% f yur current mnthly fee payment if yu leave after 24 mnths service but befre the cmpletin f 36 mnths service; If yu leave at any time during the term f the cntract, withut prviding the 62 days ntice required, the early terminatin cst is 120% f yur current mnthly fee payment. As with mst cntracting psitins, there are n retirement benefits/superannuatin plans invlved. Days ff are included in the rster pattern as abve. This may vary between fleets but generally pilts get 1-2 days ff per week. Pilts may submit requests fr particular days ff, and where pssible, Vietnam Airlines will accmmdate these. Hwever, we wuld suggest that Vietnam Airlines wuld nt be able t grant requests fr certain days ff if the requests were made n a regular basis.

US based pilts shuld be aware that Vietnam Airlines currently des nt perate t America, s yu wuld need t fly n Vietnam Airlines netwrk t Paris, Frankfurt, Japan, Krea r Taiwan (r smewhere else n the VNA netwrk) and arrange yur wn flight t the US frm there, r yu wuld need t pay fr yur wn flight fr each days ff perid. T date, many pilts have been ffered the pprtunity t upgrade and cnvert t anther fleet. VNA has apprved upgrades/cnversins fr A320, A330 and B777 FO t A320 Captain, ATR72 Captain t A320 Captain and A320 Captain t A330 Captain. There are als upgrades pssible t TRI r TRE n sme fleets. With the arrival f VNA s new fleets (A350 and B787) these transitin pprtunities will cntinue ver the freseeable future. TRAINING Hw lng is the initial training? Is there time ff during training? Can I return hme during training? Apprximately ne mnth including a 2 week Grund Schl curse. This grund curse wn t be as structured and rganised as yu will be used t. The actual schedule can vary and there may be a lt f dwn time during the training prgramme (which can be f benefit as this allws new pilts time t arrange their accmmdatin, bank accunts and get t knw the city etc). Yur standard rster pattern will start after yu have passed all training and been issued with yur CAAV licence. Yu will nt be able t return hme during training and will cmplete ne rtatin directly fllwing the issue f yur licence befre receiving yur first 2 week vacatin. VIETNAM What is living in Vietnam like? Belw is sme infrmatin prepared by ne f ur pilts n cntract at Vietnam Airlines: Living in Vietnam is generally cheap. Accmmdatin varies in bth style and price. A basic, single bedrm apartment rents fr arund USD700 a mnth and a tw bedrm apartment fr arund USD1300. The rent depends n lcatin and facilities available e.g.: pl/gym. Depending n the management, sme places allw ADSL/water/electricity and the like in the rental but therwise that cst is arund USD100 a mnth extra. Huses are cheap cmpared t an apartment and many peple prefer this lifestyle, but an apartment is ften a simpler ptin. Depending n the area, yu will get a 3-4 bedrm huse, with several bathrms fr arund USD1400 a mnth. Schl fees are expensive. Average cst is USD1000, per child, per mnth at the expatriate schls. The standard f educatin is very gd and the children experience a very csmplitan atmsphere, with children frm all parts f the glbe. All the staff are friendly, even the CEO, I m treated like part f the family. Flying is based n straight Airbus SOPs and flight training manuals are in English, s there is n risk f mistranslatins. Schedules ffer 10h duty days r less, the first fficers are gd t fly with, cabin crews are welltrained, and the mechanics have fantastic standards. It s a wnderful place t wrk. There are many smart yung cadets wh are willing t learn and keen t fly. I have t be patient and have an pen heart t teach them t be safe pilts and help them build cnfidence. This ffers a great sense f achievement as an instructr. Even thugh this is a cmmuting cntract, many freign pilts bring their families t live here with them. There are many private schls, and they are all academically excellent. It s a great place t raise children. Flying fr Vietnam Airlines has been fun and enjyable. It s fun flying, quite different frm what I m used t in the U.S. The Vietnamese culture permeates thrughut the airline. I m always treated kindly, with curtesy, and respect. They re nice peple, and this is a nice place t wrk. Fr my wife and me, this has been quite a memrable experience. We ve made many friends, and we plan t stay here thrugh retirement.
