Customs Instructions: (into Bahamas) Upon arrival in the Bahamas, the Captain will need to check in with Bahamas Customs and Immigration, who will require a permit fee of $300 per vessel 30 and over or $150 per vessel 30 and below. (Additional $20 for each additional person over 3 per vessel.) This will cover your cruising permits, fishing permits, and your departure tax for the length of your stay. You will need cash to process your paperwork and a recommended tip of at least $20 for the Customs Agent. (Typically give them the $20 when paying your fees and you will be processed faster!) All passengers need to stay with the vessel until it is cleared. On entering port, remember to hoist your Yellow Quarantine Flag. Once cleared, it is customary to strike the Yellow Quarantine Flag and raise the Bahamas Courtesy Flag. Yellow Quarantine Q Flag: Bahamas Courtesy Flag: Depending on the number of boats arriving at one time, you may expect to hover outside the marina for as long as 45 to 90 minutes. We suggest you take this time to properly prepare for the docking by unfurling dock lines, keeping in mind the possibility for either port or starboard tie-up. Dock hands will assist with your tie-up and shore power requirements. Please remember to tip them. For boats with twin 30 amp service, you may be required to use a Shore Power Y Adapter. These are available at West Marine. After docking and clearing customs, you must present your credit card to the Marina Office. Denison crew will accompany you during this process. Arriving by Air/Returning by Sea For travelers intending on joining the Denison Rendezvous fleet mid-voyage and arriving by air, it is recommended to purchase round-trip tickets. This is advised even when travelers are confirmed to return via private boat (guest can seek reimbursement for the unused ticket upon returning home if a refundable ticket). This decision is ultimately yours. However, if the traveler arrives at Bahamas Immigration on a single ticket, the owner/operator of the boat must present himself/herself and the vessel s cruising permit. A copy of the cruising permit will be permitted for crew members who may be arriving by plane and returning by boat as their names will appear on the manifest. A letter wil not suffice. Upon your arrival to The Bahamas, you will be asked to fill out an Immigration Arrival/ Departure Card, which you will keep until your departure. All visitors are required to be in possession of a return ticket. Airport information for each destination is as follows: º º West End: Fly into Freeport via Commercial Airlines. Direct flights on Bahamas Air from Fort Lauderdale International. º º Spanish Cay: Privaira flies into Spanish Cay. Call 954.776.9004 or visit www.privaira.com to book. Approximately $3500/each way for a Cessna private plane, seats 8-9. º º Treasure Cay: Flights available intotreasure Cay or Marsh Harbor via Commercial Airlines. Silver Airways flies direct into Treasure Cay. º º Bimini: Flights available into Bimini via Commercial Airlines. Customs Instructions: (into States) You must check in with U.S. Customs by calling (800) 432-1216. You will then be required to check into the Customs office with your Passports. Make sure to check your area s operating hours, as they differ. If for some reason return is after U.S. Customs operating hours, call back or visit the office the next day. The least busy time to call is during business hours on weekdays. Weekends and evenings are far busier times for U.S. Customs and you may have to wait longer. Once you clear Customs, you will be asked to call Immigration as well. Clearing U.S. Customs is usually no problem. Clearance can be given by phone, but appearing in person may be required.
Credit Cards: Many places in The Bahamas do not accept American Express. It is advised to also bring a Visa or MasterCard. Weapons: If you have a firearm on board, you must declare it with Customs (Use Form C17). You must provide the serial number and manufacturer, plus an exact count of ammunition. Though you are allowed to have a firearm on your boat, you can not take it off the boat unless you obtain a permit from The Bahamian police ahead of time. Weapons must be under lock and key at all times. Any Infraction of this law is dealt with severely. Pets: You may bring your pet into The Bahamas, but you need to make preparations before your departure. An import permit is required from the Ministry of Agriculture and Marine Resources (Nassau) for all animals being brought into any island. The permit is valid for one year from the date of issue. Applications for such permits, stating the kind of animal, breed, age, sex and country of embarkation (along with a$10 processing fee), must be made in writing. There is no fee for service dogs, e.g. seeing-eye dogs. The Bahamas Humane Society is open Monday through Saturday from 8:00a.m. to 11:00p.m. Tel: (242)325-6742. Emergency after hours Tel: (242)323-5138 Miscellaneous Information: All required Bahamas Entry Forms will be provided to you at our final Captain s Meeting. These should be filled out before you arrive in The Bahamas to expedite your clearance through Customs and Immigration. An Strategic Partner
