Romantik Hotel Post
Enjoy a piece of Hist ory Welcome to the Romantik Hotel Post, the best hotel in town. The building dates from 1500 and boasts splendid cross vaults and a Renaissance façade that is of great art historical interest. Until 1629, this gem was in the possession of the Princes of Khevenhüller, one of Carinthia s most illustrious noble families, and witnessed a number of truly historic events for instance in 1552, when the Protestant Khevenhüllers received Catholic Holy Roman Emperor Charles V as their guest. At the meeting of the Emperor with his brother, later Emperor Ferdinand II, decisions were taken that influenced history for centuries to come. Twenty years later, on June 24 1574, Henry, son of Catherine of Medici and later King Henry III of France, was also a guest at the palace. The great social highlight of 1598 was a banquet hosted at the palace for the Archduchess Margaret of Habsburg, who was on her way to Spain for her wedding to King Philip III. Politics, business, private celebrations at the Romantik Hotel Post, the intertwining of old and new stories shows that, in some ways, the world really has changed very little. Although the palace today is a member of the Romantik Hotel chain, it has eschewed the stereotypical atmosphere of standardised chain hotels. The spirit of its eventful past, its culture, its exquisite cuisine and its unsurpassable location right in the heart of the town all these factors attract guests that have preserved a sense for the extraordinary; guests that welcome the chance to treat themselves to a piece of history.
