Capacityis15tons.Thefacilityissmall;accommodatingfivevesselsduringthesummerandupto about20intheperiodfromoctobertoapril.thereisoneconcretewash downpad. ThefollowingservicescanbecontractedateithersitethroughJMS:bottompainting,welding, fabrication,rigging,mechanical,fiberglassandcarpentry,alongwithothergenerallabor.theuseof anyoutsidecontractorsmustbeapprovedbyjms. Therateforhaul outis$15.00perlinealfootandincludesblockingandpowerwash.storagerates are$50.00perdayforthefirstweekand$100.00perdayafterthat.limitedover winterstorageis availablefromoctoberthroughmarch(approximatelyadozenvessels)atacostof$2,500,plus electricity. Approximately100vesselsarehauledoutannuallyatDehart smarina,with75percentlocaluse. Ketchikan AirMarineServices TheoperationissituatedabouteightmilesnorthofdowntownKetchikanandconsistsofa35 ton hydraulictrailer,aton50 tontravellift,andmarinerailwaycapableofhaulingvesselsupto300 tons.thecurrentownershaveoperatedthehaul outfacilityforthirteenyears.theyupgradedfrom a25 tontothe50 tonliftaboutsixyearsago.thesiteisaboutfourteenacreswithspaceforabout 210vessels.Whentheybeganoperatingin1995theyhad140spaces.Approximately15to20 percentofthelong termstorageiscovered.thereisagenerallyawaitlistforcoveredstorage;which isalmostalwaysfull. Ampleworkspaceisavailableonthesite.Vesselownersmayarrangewithcontractorsforrequired services,orperformtheworkthemselves.theyhavea40 x100 enclosedpaint/fiberglasswork area.thebuildingcost$200,000toconstruct.thetravelliftcanmoveandpositionuptotwovessels inthebuildingatonetime.maximumheightis32feet.thehydraulictrailercanpositionuptothree orfoursmallervesselsinthebuildingatonetime.demandforthepaintbuildingisabout180days peryear.however,withlittledemandforaccommodatingmultiplevesselsatanyonetime,theyhave usedapproximatelyhalfofthebuildingforcoveredlong termstorageoverthelastcoupleofyears. Liftfeesforvesselsupto25tonsare$9.00perlinealfoot.Vesselsover25tonsare$11.00perfoot. Feesareforroundtriphaul outonly.blockingandpowerwashservicesareavailableforanextrafee. Feesforthemarinerailwayare$12.50perfoot.Therateforoutsidestoragespaceis$0.50perlineal footperdayforworkareauseand$3.50perfootmonthlyforlong termstorage.enclosedwork spaceforpaintingandotherusesis$100perday.coveredstorage(buildingswithtwowallsanda roof)costs$4.50perfootpermonthforsmallvesselsontrailersand$7.50permonthperfootfor largervessels.

AirMarinehaulsanestimated300vesselsannually,withmorethan50percentbeingcommercial vessels.accordingtocfecdata,thereareapproximately200commercialfishingvesselshomeportedinketchikan.demandforcoveredstorageisalmostexclusivelyfrommid sizepleasure vessels,withtwo thirdsofwhichcomefromoutofstate(approximately20vessels).approximately two thirdsoftheirhaul outsarelocalvessels.typically200to210vesselsarestoredoverthe winter,(ofwhichabouttwo thirdsareontrailersincoveredstorageandtherestarelargervessels blockedincoveredstorage).theyarecontemplatingclearingmoreacreageandexpandingthe numberofoutsidespace. KetchikanShipandDrydock(KSDD) Thisfacilityisdesignedforlargevessels.Theyofferadrydockandmarineservicesforlargevessels (upto450feetand10,000tons)atitsfullserviceshipyard.craneserviceattheyardhasa40ton capacity.servicesavailableon siteincludefullshipwrightandcarpentryservices,valveand hydraulicsworks,electricalandpipespecialtyshops.marine relatedbusinessesinthecommunity includefullserviceboatandenginesales,completeshipwrightservices,welding,fabrication, electronics,electrical,paintingservices,marinehardwareandsupplies,canvasandupholstery, fiberglass,gasanddieselenginemechanics,refrigeration,andinsulation. BecauseofKSDD scoststructureandfocusonthelargestvesselsintheregion,thefacilityisnotin directcompetitionforvesselsappropriatelysizedofapetersburgfacility.vesselslikelytousealift facilityinpetersburgwouldonlyuseksddinanemergency.informationthenumberofvessels servicedwasnotavailable. Sitka Sitkahasacompleterangeofmarinebusinesses.Therearefullserviceboatsalesshopsaswellas specializedserviceandrepairshopsincludingcanvas worksandupholstery,electronicsservices, fiberglassandpaintingservices,welding,generalmarinehardwareandsupplies,metalfabrications, mechanics(gasanddiesel),propwork,bottompaintingandzincsservices.manyindividual providersaremembersoftheshipwrightscooperativeinsitka. HalibutPointMarine Thetravelliftislocated5milesnorthofthedowntownarea.Liftcapacityis88tons.Thesiteconsists ofabouttwoandahalfacresofstorageandworkspace.thereisnocoveredworkorstoragearea. Liftfeesarechargedbythelinealfoot:$12.00perfootincludesroundtriphaul out.blockingisdone bythevesselowner.itismainlya doityourself yard.on site,pressurewashunitsareavailablefor rent.summerstorageratesare$1.35perfootperday.winterratesare$0.70perfootperdayor $10.00perfootpermonth,whicheverischeaper.Between500and600vesselsarehauledout annually.ofthese,anestimated80percentofthevesselsarelocallyowned.theycanstoreabout40 50boatsdependingonsize.Commercialvesselsmakeupapproximately90percentofthosehauled atthissite.accordingtocfecdatathereareabout359commercialfishingvesselshomeportedin Sitka. AllenMarine Thefacilityisusedprimarilyforthisboatbuildingoperation.The60tontravelliftisgenerallynot availabletothepublic,althoughitmaybeavailableforemergencyuse. Skagway

Skagwayhasa20tonhydraulictrailercapableofhaulingvesselsuptoabout40feetinlengthwitha 10footbeam.InlateNovembertheyhad52boatsintheirstorageyard.Theydonothavecovered storage.skagway scompetitiveadvantageisadryerclimatethanothersoutheastcommunities.hauloutfeeis$200roundtrip.storagerateis$0.20persquarefootpermonthwitha250squarefoot minimum. Craig Craigpurchasedan80tonhydraulictrailerinApril2006.Theycanhaulvesselsuptoabout50 55 feet.thereisawashdownpadwithacatchmentsystem(sametypeaswrangell).theyhaveasmall storageyardthatwillholdaboutupto20vessels. Rateis$10perfootroundtripwithupto3daysoutoftheafter.After3days,astoragechargeof $0.29perlinealfootperdayapplies.After6weeksthelongtermstoragerateis$0.16perdayper foot. Craighashauledatotalofabout215vesselsasoflateNovember,2008.Fiscalyear2008istherebest yeartodateandtheharbormasterforecasts85 90vesselswillbehauled.Approximately80percent ofhaul outsarelocalvessels.thereabout16vesselsinstorageinlatenovember2008,twoofthem werefromoutofstate.theharbormasterreportthatdemandisgoodandiftheyhadmoreroomthey wouldlikelybehaulingmorevessels. Hoonah HoonahiscurrentlycompletingPhaseIIofdevelopmentofanewMarineIndustrialCenter.PhaseII includesa200toncapacitytravelliftslatedtobeginoperatinginmay2009.thefacilitywillconsist ofalaunch/hauloutpierandapproximately3.5acresofspaceforstorageandboatwork.phasei; tidelandfillwascompletedinjune2007.theyardwillaccommodate15 25vessels,dependingon size.planscallforutilitiestobeinstalledandreadywiththecompletionofthelaunchingpier.the washdownareawillbeconcrete,withtheremainderofthesitealevelgravelsurface.thetravellift willbeownedandoperatedbythecityofhoonah.itwilloperateyearround,withrepairworkdone byvesselownersorprivatemarineservicecompanies. Currentlytherearelimitedshipwrightservicesinthecommunity.Generalenginerepair(inboard, outboardanddiesel),fiberglass,andweldingservicesareavailable.thereisleasespaceavailablefor marinerelatedbusinessesonsiteaswellasimmediatelyacrossthehighwayfromthefacility. AccordingtoCityofficials,liftrateshavenotyetbeenestablishedbutwillbecomparablewith industrystandardsintheregion. AstudypreparedfortheCityofHoonahinSeptember2002estimatedthat192vesselswouldusea 100tonfacility.Revisedfiguresforthe200tonfacilitywerenotavailable.Giventhenumberof competingfacilitiesintheregionandthecurrentlimitedservicesavailableinhoonahitseems unlikelythatnumberofhaul outswillbeconductedanytimeinthenearfuture.hoonahwillneedan extensivemarketingeffortandanexpansionofserviceproviderstoattractmorevesselstothe facility. Petersburg TherearecurrentlytwotidalgridsavailableinPetersburg.Oneiscapableofhandlingvesselsupto 200tonsandasecondsmallergridislimitedtovesselsof40feetorless. PetersburgShipwrights

PetersburgShipwrightshasabout1acreofuplandand2acresofsubmergedlands(Petersburg ShipwrightsownsaboutanacreandleasestherestfromtheCity).Approximatelyone thirdofan acreisfilled.amarinewayrailhaul outcantaketwovesselsupto58 atonetime,orone 100 vessel (about400tons).keellengthisthemostlimitingfactor.petersburgshipwrightshasnoboatstorage area.mosthaul outslast24hoursorless.vesselownersarenotpermittedtoperformanymajor workthemselveswhilehauled outatpetersburgshipwrights.inadditiontothemarine wayrail, thereisa45 x55 floatingshopwherevesselscantie uponthreesides.thefrontofthefloatcan takea110 vessel.petersburgshipwrightsisconvertingpreviouslyleasedspaceintoanew40 x40 machineshop.theownerstatedthathehasplansandpermitstodevelopa150tonliftatthesitebut thatfinancingisanissue.petersburgshipwrightshaulsbetween200and250vesselsannually.the shipwrightoperationincludeswelding,woodwork,propulsionandfiberglassrepair.electronicsand engineworkisdonebyoutsidecontractorsarrangedbythevesselowner. Haulratesare$145perdayforvesselsupto36feetinlength.Vessels37to58feetinlengthare charged$5perfoot,perday.vesselsover58pay$6.50perday. PetersburgShipwrightsalsooperatesaretailstoreonthepropertythatsellsfishingandsafety supplies,marinehardware,paintsandotherboatrelatedequipment. PetersburgMarineIndustrialPark PetersburgMarineislocatedacrossthehighwayfromScowBayturn around.operationbeganinthe springof2008.theworkyardandstoragesiteisfilledandgraded,andencompassesapproximately 12acres.Ahydraulictrailerwitha35toncapacitycanhaulvesselsuptoabout47feet.Petersburg Marineonlyprovideshaul outservices;allotherworkmustbecontractedordonebythevessels owner.vesselsarehauledusingarampownedbythestateofalaskadepartmentoftransportation andtrailoredacrossthehighway.untilrecently,powerlinesalongthehighwayhadlimitedvessel heighttoabout22feet.thepowerlinesarecurrentlybeingburiedaspartatransmissionline upgradeandwillnolongerlimitvesselheight. Themainsitehasagravelpadofabout3acreswitha40 x60 concreteworkareacapableofholding approximately12vessels.theworkareahasaccesstopower,sewerandwater.thereisampleroom forlongtermvesselstorageontheremainderofthesite.currentlythereisnocatchmentsystemfor vesselwashing.accordingtothefacilityownerpetersburgmarineisadheringtoalaskacoastalzone ManagementGuidelinesandcloselymonitorsfacilityuserstopreventunauthorizedactivities. Theownerplanstodevelopthesitefurtherandincludemarinerelatedbusinesses,netstorageand lockers.hestatedthatifawashdowncontainmentsystemwasnotinstalledelsewhereinthe communityhewouldeventualhopetoinstalloneatthepetersburgmarinesitebutthatwiththecost near$150,000,theeventualitywasuncertain. Ratesare$10perfootroundtrip(includesstandardblocking)and$1.75perlinealfootpermonth forstorage.pmhashauledabout35vesselssinceopening.currentlythereare40 45vesselsinthe PetersburgMarineyard.SomewerehauledbyPetersburgMarinebutmostwerebroughtthereby theowners.manyaresmallerrecreationalvessels.thepetersburgmarine sownerstatedthathe expectsnextyearwillbebusierwiththeavailabilityofpoweronthesite. Wrangell AspartofWrangell smarinecenterdevelopment,a150 tontravelliftwasinstalledinnovember 2006.TheboatliftoperationisrunbytheCityofWrangellthroughtheharbordepartment,and operatesduringregularbusinesshoursandonanemergencybasis.vesselownersmaychooseto hirecontractorstoworkontheirboatsordotheworkthemselves.theliftisabletohandleboatsup to120feetinlengthand28feetwide.thelargestvesselliftedtodatewasa110 footyacht.

Thereareapproximatelythreeacresofgradedandfenceduplandareathatareusedforvessel repairsandstorage.anadditionalacrewillbeaddedtothestorageyardinthenearfuture.thecity alsohasau.s.corpsofengineerpermittofillanadditional2.5acresinfrontofthefacility.thereis notascheduleforcompletionoftheadditionalacreage. Initially,fiveworkspaces(withelectricity)wereinstalledonaconcretepad.Awash downpadwas installedinthesummerof2008tocaptureandstorerun offfromvesselmaintenance.thecity currentlyisinstallingelectricaloutletsfor32morespaces.theharbormasterreportedthatthe additionaloutletsshouldbecompletedbytheendof2008.theyhopetoadd30moreoutletsnext yeariffundsareavailable.thereisverylimitedcoveredspaceavailableforusebyvesselowners. TheCityownstwosmallwarehousesonthesite.Vesselsupto35feetwithlowriggingcanusethe warehousespaceforwork.thefacilitiesarenotideal workspaceastheyarealsousedforstorageofharbormaintenancematerials.theharbormaster statedthatthereisadesirebyaprivatebusinesstoacquirealong termleaseonthesiteanddevelop abusinessthatprovidescoveredworkspaceforvessels.currentlythecityisworkingonaplanthat willallowspacewithinthefacilitytobeleased. InJuneof2008a40 tonhydraulictrailerwasaddedtothefacility.afront endloaderisusedto maneuverthetrailer.thishasallowedthefacilitytostacksmallervesselsmoredenselyinthe storageyard.stackingboatsintheyardwiththetravellift(40feetwide)causedeachstoredvesselto takeupmorespacethanwasrequired,potentiallyresultinginlostrevenue.theloaderisalsoused forothermaintenanceactivities(suchassnowremoval).offsitetransportationofvesselsis available. TheWrangellharbormasterreportedthatapproximately160vesselswereliftedannuallyinthefirst andsecondyearofoperation.thelargestnumberofvesselsinthestorageyardatonetimewas57in early2008.inmid November2008therewere45vesselsintheyardandtwointheworkarea.An estimated48percentofvesselshauledoutannuallyarenon local.mosthaul outsarecommercial vessel,mainlyfishingboats.cfecdataindicatesthatabout200fishingvesselsareregisteredas home portedinwrangell.theyhavehauled outafewyachtsforemergencyrepairs.whenyachtsare pulledforemergencyrepairs,spendinginthecommunitycanbesubstantial.theyhadtwosmaller yachtsintheyardforwinterstoragefor2008 2009. Liftrevenuewasjustover$41,000forFY2007(onlysevenmonthsofoperation)andstoragefees earnedanadditional$10,000.liftandstoragerevenuesincreasedsubstantiallyinfy2008to $96,500and$45,000respectively.Storagefeesaccountedfor32percentoftotalliftandstorage relatedrevenuesinfy2008.averagerevenuepervesselhauled out,wasapproximately$600in 2008andstoragefeeswereapproximately$270pervesselhauled.
