The vast majority of the population is Muslim. Jewish and Christian communities alike practice their faith in freedom, this contributes to enriching the diversity of Tunisia's culture. Tunisians are very welcoming. They are used to see people visiting their country and will always try to speak your language.
Cuisine Tunisian cuisine is a melting pot of culinary influences from the Mediterranean region, although many dishes are formed from a base of tomatoes, herbs, olive oil, and fresh bread. Lamb, veal, chicken, squid, sea bass and tuna are found on a vast menu of national and regional dishes, often in a stew (marqua) or soup (shorba). Due to the vast coast of Tunisia, sea food such as shrimps, mussels and sardines are a specialty of the country. National dish is couscous (coarsely ground semolina), cooked with delicately seasoned root vegetables, chickpeas, boneless chicken, peppers and tomato paste. Almost every dish will be offered to you with harissa which is a red chili paste that Tunisians love. 14
