POPULAR ATTRACTIONS VATICAN & SISTINE CHAPEL Vatican City is the location of the Pope s residence, and is the smallest internationally recognised independent city in the world, by both area and population. Amongst the cultural sites in the city lies the Sistine Chapel famous for its architecture and decoration and the site of the Papal Conclave. Part of the beautiful artwork within the Chapel is the painted ceiling by Renaissance artist Michelangelo.
HADRIAN S VILLA This UNESCO World Heritage site is a fascinating piece of Roman archaeology, built in the early 2 nd century. Built by the emperor Hadrian himself, it was an extravagant complex of more than 30 buildings covering over 250 acres, and was his preferred residence when he was in Rome.
