Kayaking is a perfect way to get around in the Arctic and the very traditional way to explore the arctic shorelines. After the learning period we will set out for a daytrip to Brucebyen. We will paddle across the magnificent glacier front with ice bergs and Arctic wildlife. On the other side of the fjord lies Brucebyen. The small settlement consists of huts that where built 100 years ago by Scottish geologists. The guide will tell you fascinating stories from the history. After a long day on the
cold arctic sea, it is wonderful to relax in the sauna and afterwards enjoy a delicious dinner. 5 / 8 Dinner and accommodation in double room at Nordenskiöld Lodge DAY 3 Glacier hiking Blue ice Arctic silence Today we will head out to the majestic Nordenskiöld Glacier. In the evening we make a bonfire and enjoy the view over the fjord. PRACTICAL INFORMATION Things to know before departure 8 / 8 NORDENSKIÖLD BASECAMP HOTEL CO2 INVESTMENT PASSPORT & VISA TO GET AROUND Nordenskiöld Lodge is the northernmost cabin for commercial trips on Svalbard. The cabin is located far away from any civilization and offers excellent possibilities for longer expeditions. With no running water or electricity Nordenskiöld is a true expedition lodge in the middle of the arctic, but with modern comfort. We use wood to heat up the cabin and get our drinking water from the melting glacier. There are 5 big bedrooms with fantastic arctic views, 11 comfortable beds, an indoor toilet and a traditional Finnish sauna. The cabin is modern and comfortable with big windows giving away to the mighty glacier. Laying in the glacier moraine the cabin is well hidden from any by- passer. This is a place where you can enjoy the arctic silence in peace. You can enjoy your breakfast while looking right over to the magnificent Nordenskiöld glacier or relax in the sunny terrace with warm coffee and watch polar bear hunt for seals on the sea ice. Basecamp Hotel is situated right in the heart of Longyearbyen, among restaurants, pubs, shops and the bank. It is absolutely Longyearbyen s most amazing hotel, decorated in traditional trapper s style with driftwood, sealskin, pictures and objects that illustrate the past and current trappers life in the Arctic. Despite its rusticity, Basecamp Hotel offers high quality accommodation with a unique style! As a part of Basecamp Spitsbergen s efforts to be climate neutral, there will be an additional climate investment charge of NOK 250 per guest. This is donated in its entirety to Basecamp Foundations forestry project in Masai Mara, Kenya. The trees bind CO2 and contribute to reducing the effects of emissions associated with our activities and your travel. For more information, please visit: http://www.basecampexplorer.com Please remember that to travel to Svalbard all visitors need to go through the passport control. The identity of all travellers between Spitsbergen and the Norwegian mainland will be checked upon both arrival and departure. Please note that if you need a visa to arrive to Norway you will need another visa (double entry) to enter Norway again after your visit on Spitsbergen. In Longyearbyen city area, you can walk around on your own without polar bear protection. On both sides of the settlement there are polar bear signs marking the city border and reminding everyone to carry a rifle when entering the wilderness. Do not wander past those signs without an experienced guide and proper safety equipment. On all our trips, our guides will have the proper safety equipment including a rifle. We will take care of your safety; you can just relax and enjoy the adventure.
