All about visits in Prague Subject Specific Visits All suggested visits on our programmes are provided with the co-operation of the companies concerned and are subject to availability. In order to maintain a good relationship with our suppliers, we are unable to book visits prior to receiving a firm booking form. Due to the popularity of certain visits, we advise you to book as early as possible to avoid disappointment. In the unlikely event of a visit cancellation, we will do our utmost to replace it suitably. Industrial visits are not available at weekends. Unless specifically agreed by us the teacher has responsibility for teaching. Study Visit Fees We charge a fee for arranging technical visits (e.g. breweries, factories, wine producers, stock exchange, company visits, food production). The fee: is available on request, and includes a guide and coach where required and are charged per paying person per visit. Please note that entrance costs, if applicable, are not included these are payable locally On all visits where a study visit fee is applicable, it will be shown on this list with this symbol: Museum Visits European Study Tours is delighted to offer a complimentary museum booking service of 4 museums. Should you wish us to book any more museums for you, an administration charge of 10 per museum will be charged. Please bear in mind that museums in Prague will be closed on either Mondays, bank holidays or weekends so please check and plan for this in advance. Entrance Fees Unless you are informed otherwise, entrance fees are always payable locally for all visits. For student rate entrance to museums in Prague, it is essential that you bring along with you a letter printed on your school s headed paper, confirming your status as teachers and students. This letter should include a list of all students and teachers names and dates of birth. It can also facilitate entrance for the students if you have a list of names with the name of the course they are studying. 2

It continues with an explanation of the political system, the economic development, Gross Domestic Product, sector shares, State budgets, inflation, and import/export. The group will have the opportunity to see the storage of the raw materials and the controlledtemperature fermentation process in both open tanks and closed vats. Metro: Andel Open daily U Fleku Brewery www.ufleku.cz The most famous Prague beer cellar. Its complex of several historical pubs is supplied by its own ancient brewery, which produces the unique dark FLEKOVSKÉ beer. A visit will give an insight into the beer production with a tour, film and tasting. Velke Popovice Brewery www.beer-kozel.cz The guide gives a detailed talk on the traditional production process and the extensive tour includes visits to the malt making unit, the brewing unit and the bottling unit. Pilsner Urquell Brewery www.pilsner-urquell.com The brewery museum in Pilsen is the only one of its kind in the Czech Republic, and tries to document the progress which has been made from home brewing to the drink we see today. The visits includes a visit to the malt making and beer brewing units as well as beer drawing and beer tasting. Coach required (1 hour from Prague) Becherovka Distillery www.becherovka.cz This company, now part of Pernod Ricard, has been producing the famous Czech liquor, Carlsbad Bitter Becherovka since 1807. The company is located in the spa town of Karlovy Vary/Carlsbad and the visit is highly recommended as something different. Coach required (2 hours from Prague) Rückl Crystal Factory www.ruckl.cz/en A tour includes a visit to glass-furnaces where the glass has been melted, the place where the glass-cutters cut ornament patterns on the glass products and a hall with examples of the cut-glass. A good contrast to the mass production at the Skoda factory. Coach required (1 hour from Prague) Mostly open until 13:00 Ceramics Factory Lasselsberger Ceramics is prestigious international producer of wall and floor tiles and the largest in Prague. This visit includes a tour of the factory and discussion time with a company representative. Coach required. 90 minutes from Prague FUTUBA A locally based Japanese joint venture producing automotive parts for body and car suspensions. A guided tour of the factory takes place, outside of Prague, approximately 100 km south-east of the city. Approx 20-25 km away ART AND DESIGN National Gallery Collection of 19 th and 20 th Century Art www.ngprague.cz This is the city s brightest modern art treasure, and the first comprehensive centre for Czech 20 th Century art. ART AND DESIGN Sternberg Palace The Sternberg gallery was founded here in the 1790s, the palace now houses the National Gallery's European Old Masters, which includes some outstanding paintings. 150 CKR / Concessions: 80 CKR Metro: Malostranska Hrandcanska Bilek Villa www.ghmp.cz/a_vila This must be the only museum in the world designed in the form of a wheatfield. It was built in 1911-12 by the mystic sculptor, Frantisek Bílek as his studio and home, and still contains much of his work. 120 CKR / Concessions: 80 CKR Metro: Hrandcanska Museum of Decorative Arts www.upm.cz This neo-renaissance museum is considered a work of art in its own right. With richly decorated halls and stained glass windows it is well worth a visit. One hour from Prague University Term time only Prague Congress Centre www.kcp.cz This is the largest congress centre in Prague. There are eight halls with a total capacity of 4500 people and thirty meeting rooms which hold 1500 people. Thanks to a huge financial investment the centre has been recently renovated and reconstructed. The venue has hosted such important events as the International Monetary Fund and World Bank Group annual sessions in 2000. LEISURE AND TOURISM River cruises on Vltava river A one hour cruise along the river Vltava through central Prague will offer students the chance to see most of Prague s sights and institutions from the river. A two hour cruise with buffet dinner is also available. Sparta Prague Ice Hockey Stadium www.hcsparta.cz The Czechs are one of the world's best Ice Hockey nations, with the sport proving more popular with locals than football. HISTORY AND POLITICS Museum of Communism www.muzeumkomunismu.cz Opened in 2001, the aim of this museum is to put the Communist era into perspective. The museum has a collection of photographs, artefacts and texts relating to the pre-velvet Revolution era. Metro: Hradcanska 180 CKR Adults / 140 CKR Concessions Metro: Mustek, Nam Republiky Terezin, Jewish Ghetto Town & Museum www.pamatnik-terezin.cz This second world war labour camp and Jewish Ghetto Town is a very popular destination for educational trips as a reminder of the disastrous consequences of the suppression of freedom, democracy and human rights. To create an extensive full day programme the trip to Terezín can be combined with Lidice. In 1942 the women and children were carried off to concentration camps and the village was burned. This dreadful action was a part of the fascist reprisals. Museum memorial with a film projection can be visited. The Jewish Museum www.jewishmuseum.cz This museum preserves the historical monuments of the former Jewish ghetto. The museum is a worthwhile cultural experience for all. Coach required. MEDIA Barrandov Film Studios www.barrandov.com The Barrandov Film Studios are one of the largest and oldest film studios in Europe. The New Presence magazine is Central Europe's quarterly Englishlanguage journal, devoted to exploring current political, social, economic and cultural issues as they relate to the region. TV Studio Visit to the local regional broadcasting studios where you will see the production and sets of some of the famous Czech TV programmes. REGIONAL HIGHLIGHTS Day Trip to Karlovy Vary and Marianske Lazn Karlovy Vary is a popular spa town situated 120km west of Prague. The healing spring waters of which the Hot Spring Vridlo is the most renowned & serves as a treatment for a range of ailments.
