This tour booklet provides an outline of the highlights of your trip and a detailed itinerary with flight and hotel details for you and those at home who may want to contact you. It also includes information that will be useful while you are in Italy. All the information is subject to change due to any circumstances beyond our control. Name Badge Please wear this upon arrival in Rome so that our staff can recognize you and whenever you are participating in a tour program. Baggage Tags Be sure that each of your bags, including your check-in bag, has a completed KIconcerts baggage tag affixed. Other things to note: Airline Tickets Your airline ticket is an electronic ticket. A copy is not necessary for airport check-in as long as you have your passport and flight information. Passport Your passport is vital. Take care of it at all times. Do not pack it in your check-in baggage and do not leave it lying around. Keep a copy of your passport separate from your passport. PERFORMANCES June 5 and 6, 2017 Festival Rehearsals at Hotel Capannelle, Rome June 6, 2017 Concert with Bel Cantos Choir & MiniCassia Chorale and Monte Vista Touring Singers at Sant Andrea delle Valle, Rome Sant Andrea della Valle is a basilica church in Rome and is the general seat for the religious order of the Theatines, dedicated to St Andrew the Apostle. Sant Andrea della Valle serves up everything you d expect in a Baroque church: history, artistic treasures, opulence, and dramatic grandeur. It is not at all difficult to understand why Giacomo Puccini set the first act of his opera Tosca in Sant Andrea della Valle (in the Barberini Chapel). PERFORMANCES June 7, 2016 Festival Chorus Sings the Mass at St Peter s Basilica, Vatican City St Peter s Basilica is the world s largest Basilica of Christianity, nested into the heart of the Vatican City. St. Peter s Basilica stands on the traditional site where Peter - the apostle who is considered the first pope - was crucified and buried. St. Peter s tomb is under the main altar and many other popes are buried in the basilica as well. Originally founded by Constantine in 324, St. Peter s Basilica was rebuilt in the 16th century by Renaissance masters including Bramante, Michelangelo and Bernini. June 8, 2017 Dress Rehearsal and Festival Gala Concert at Basilica Santa Maria degli Angeli, Rome Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri, better known by its shorter name, Santa Maria degli Angeli, is a unique Renaissance church in Rome. In 1541, a Sicilian priest, Fr. Antonio Lo Duca, had a vision of angels in the ruins of the Baths of Diocletian. As a result, Pope Pius IV (1559-1565) ordered that a church be built within the Baths. The church was designed by Michelangelo, who began work in 1563 but died a year later in 1564. It is dedicated to the Virgin Mary, to the angels, and to the Christian slaves who died building the baths. Like most churches in Rome, Santa Maria degli Angeli is filled with art and monumental tombs and also has some holy relics. In the left transept, the new Chapel of St Bruno was constructed as part of the restoration works for the 1700 Jubilee. On the left side is the Meridian Line, a sundial laid down along the meridian that crosses through Rome, at latitude 15º. Page 6
PERFORMANCES June 10, 2017 Festival Gala Concert at Ognissanti Church, Florence The Chiesa di Ognissanti (All-Saints Church) is a Franciscan church in Florence, Italy. Founded by the lay order of the Umiliati, the church was dedicated to all the saints and martyrs, known and unknown. It was completed during the 1250s, but almost completely rebuilt on Baroque designs about 1627 and was among the first examples of Baroque architecture to penetrate this Renaissance city. During the sixteenth century the Umiliati declined in energy, and the Franciscan order assumed control of the church in 1571, bringing precious relics such as the robe Saint Francis of Assisi wore.
