Transportation Conference Venue As the conference is approaching, we would like to provide you with some general information for participants Registration Conference Reception There are two international airports in Bangkok: Suvarnabhumi International Airport and Don Mueang Airport. They are about 30 km Workshops / Library Visits from the city center. Taxi is convenient although it can be more costly during rush hours. The fare starts at 35 baht and gradually works its way up to 2 baht per kilometer at a time, with an additional surcharge of Instruction for Presenters Information Desk 50 baht. Airport Rail Link from Suvarnabhumi Airport could be another interesting option. It takes only 30 minutes from the airport to Phyathai Station, which is the end of the line. Then, at Phyathai Station, you can take a taxi to your hotel or the venue at the Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University. Public and shuttle buses from both airport are also available. For more information, please visit https://www.transitbangkok.com/to_bangkok_airport.html Internet Access Hosted by Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University Phayathai Road, Pathumwan, Bangkok, Thailand 10330 aliepcu2017@gmail.com icadl2017@gmail.com

Buses are the most economical way to get around Bangkok although they can be confusing to newcomers. Public buses operating in the areas around the university are: Rama I Road: Bus no. 11, 25, 54, 73, 79 and 204 Rama IV Road: Bus no. 21, 34, 40, 47, 50, 67, 93 and 141 Phayathai Road: Bus no. 29, 36, 36, 501 and 542 Henri Dunant Road: Bus no. 16, 21 and 141 Traffic jams can be expected in Bangkok, especially during rush hours, so you may prefer BTS or MRT, which allows you to calculate your time better. The Bangkok Mass Transit System (BTS) or the Skytrain, is an elevated rapid transit system in Bangkok, Thailand. The stations which are relatively close to the university are Siam Station and National Stadium Station. Once you arrive at the station, there are university shuttle buses that will take you to the campus (Monday to Saturday). For more information, please visit http://www.bts.co.th/customer/en/02-routecurrent_new.aspx The Metropolitan Rapid Transit (MRT) or the subway is a rapid transit system served in the Bangkok Metropolitan Area. You can get off at Sam Yan Station, take the Exit 2, walk through the basement of Chamchuri Square to the university gate, and continue to the venue in 15 minutes. Otherwise, you might take a taxi to the venue. MRT Map is available at http://www.bangkokmetro.co.th/map.aspx?lang=en&menu=8 University shuttle buses are in service around the university campus. Please visit the conference website for more details: http://www.arts.chula.ac.th/dlives/accommodation.html Our forum is not associated with Guarant Service Co.Ltd. The city was founded in 1782 by King Rama I, succeeding Sukhothai, Ayutthaya and Thonburi, the previous capital cities. Bangkok has a population of over eleven million today. Its dwellers are diverse in ethnicity, beliefs, and cultures. This vibrant city is a popular tourist destination that has many things to offer to almost everyone. What to See Palaces and Temples If you love culture, beautiful palaces and temples are waiting for you to visit. Wat Phra Kaew or the Temple of the Emerald Buddha (officially known as Wat Phra Sri Rattana Satsadaram) and the Grand Palace are unmissable. The temple enshrines the Emerald Buddha and is regarded an important temple in Thailand. The famous Wat Pho (the Temple of the Reclining Buddha), or Wat Phra Chetuphon, is located behind the splendid Temple of the Emerald Buddha. The temple is well known for its stunning reclining Buddha and original Thai massage. Wat Arun or Wat Arun Ratchawararam is best known for its massive prang, a tower on the Chao Phraya River. Thai House and Museum The Jim Thompson House is a museum in central Bangkok, housing the art collection of James H. W. Thompson, an American entrepreneur and architect who was the founder of the world renowned Jim Thompson Thai Silk Company. Built in 1959, the museum spans one rectangular "rai" of land (approximately half an acre or 2023.43 meters). It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Thailand; sporting vibrant jungle foliage in the heart of the city. Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC) is near Siam and offers new art exhibitions all year round. The National Museum and the National Gallery will give you a good overview of history, archeology and art of the country. The Museum of Siam is interesting for its interactive way to engage with visitors. BACC Photo credit: http://www.notyourtypicaltourist.com/tag/bangkok-art-and-culture-centre-bacc

Theatres Watching performances can be a great way to appreciate Thai art and culture. The Traditional Thai Puppet Theatre and Chaloem Krung Royal Theatre offer traditional Thai performances. Patravadi Theatre offers more modern dramatic art. Siam Niramit is where you can see a more fanciful show giving an overview of Thai culture. Things to Do Shopping Thailand is best known as a paradise for shopping lovers. Bangkok has numerous shopping malls including Siam Paragon, Siam Center, and MBK, which are near the venue. Ratchaprasong District also has more shopping malls and the internationally famous garment market Pratu Nam. Chatuchak Weekend Market has various kinds of goods that attract tourists and locals alike. Eating Chatuchak Weekend Market Photo credit: http://vinadaytravel.com/famous-traditional-markets-in-thailand-part-1.html Chinatown is a great place to explore street food in Thailand. Fine dining is also plentiful in Bangkok. Thong Lo District is known for its many restaurants. For more information, please visit https://www.timeout.com/bangkok/restaurants Getting Away You may want to get away to see other parts of Thailand, such as visiting Damnoen Saduak Floating Market in Ratchaburi, visiting a cool and calm city like Chiang Mai in Northern part of Thailand or diving in the Southern sea in Krabi or Phuket. For more information, please visit Tourism Authority of Thailand at https://www.tourismthailand.org

There are three seasons in Bangkok: hot, rainy and cool. However, it is fairly hot throughout the year. The best time to visit is the cool season (starting from around November to February). The temperature in November ranges from an average low of 23.9 C to an average high of 32.4 C. Thailand currency is Thai baht. Currency can be exchanged at the airport (any time) and banks. Opening hours of banks in Bangkok are varied depending on their locations. Many bank branches, including those in shopping malls, have extended hours, so they are still open even in the evening and weekends. Major credit cards (VISA, Mastercard, American express, Union pay) are accepted in most hotels, shops, and restaurants. Cash withdrawal machines linked to international networks are also widely available. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. aliepcu2017@gmail.com icadl2017@gmail.com Looking forward to seeing you soon!
