SAMPLE ITINERARY HIGHLIGHTS Tour Salzburg & Vienna, Prague or Budapest Walk in the footsteps of the masters Relive the Sound of Music Perform in grand venues SALZBURG VIENNA DAY 1: DEPART Depart home DAY 2: SALZBURG After landing at Munich airport board your coach for the short drive to Salzburg. Enjoy a guided walking tour of Salzburg taking in the sights of the former principality Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born in with a visit to his birthplace (seeing the violin he played when living there). You will also visit one of the largest of Europe s medieval castles, Fortress Hohensalzburg, which frames Salzburg against the backdrop of the Alps. Stroll the Mirabell Gardens and visit the imposing Salzburger Dom before checking in to your hotel and having the first of your daily dinners. Overnight Salzburg area Salzburger Dom DAY 3: SALZBURG A (daily) hot and cold breakfast buffet is available before embarking on a Sound of Music tour. Relive some of the post poignant moments of the movie and gain an insight into the thinking of Austria during the second world war. DAY 4: MELK VIENNA After a hearty breakfast travel to Melk for a guided visit of the exquisite Benedictine Abbey overlooking the Danube River. The Melk Abbey has a magnificent baroque facade and an extensive library of manuscripts. There is the possibility of an informal performance in the beautiful baroque chapel before traveling onto Vienna (possibly sailing part of the way on the Danube). Overnight Vienna DAY 5: VIENNA Start the day with a tour passing all the iconic sights of Vienna, a city of imperial grandeur, traveling the Ring Avenue, passing by the Hofburg Palace, the Opera House, Mozart s Figaro House, City Hall and St Stephen s Cathedral (Stephansdom). After time for lunch, tour the Central Cemetery (housing honorary tombs of famous composers like Beethoven, Gluck, Schubert, Johann Strauss - father and son and Brahms amongst others) before preparing for the evening s concert perhaps in an exchange setting with a host local choir. Overnight Vienna DAY 6: VIENNA On our last full day in Austria, tour the Schönbrunn Palace, the fabulous baroque summer residence of the Hapsburg Emperors. Take time to explore Vienna s many charms hidden in laneways and ancient courtyards finding 17th-century houses and delightful baroque squares jostling for attention even discovering houses where Beethoven, Mozart, Mahler or one of the Strausses lived. Our final Austrian concert will be performed tonight. Tour the Old Town Square and witness the Prague Astronomical Clock s hourly show in its day considered one of the wonders of the world before checking in and dinner.
