Terms and Definitions Updated October 7, 2016 Important Notices: Campers looking to stay in Cavendish Campground and Stanhope Campground are advised to expect disruptions in June, as construction work will be completed to the campgrounds entryway. For more information, please visit http://www.pc.gc.ca/eng/pn-np/pe/pei-ipe/visit/infra-prog.aspx In an effort to create a quiet camping experience at the Cavendish Campground in PEI National Park, there will be an alcohol ban in effect during the Cavendish Beach Music Festival. This policy will be in effect from 12 noon on Thursday July 7, 2017 to 12 noon on Monday July 10, 2017. Pets are prohibited from all national park beaches from April 1 to October 15 annually. Pets are welcome on trails and in campgrounds but must be kept on a leash at all times. Stanhope: June 16 to September 3, 2017-8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. September 4, 2017 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. After Hours Registration: Campers cannot register after 10:00 p.m. If you will arrive later, please contact the park directly 902-672-6350. Check In Time: Any time after 2:00 p.m. Visitors who would like to arrive at the campground earlier may enjoy the rest of the park while waiting for their campsite to become vacant (a valid national park entry pass is required). Check Out Time: Before 11:00 a.m. Quiet Hours: 11:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m. During quiet hours, the use of radios, musical instruments, generators or other items that cause excessive noise is prohibited. Maximum Length of Stay: 21 nights Maximum Persons per Site: 6 people (exceptions may be possible for 2 adults with their dependent children to a maximum of 7 people). Maximum Vehicles per Site: 2 vehicles, space permitting. All vehicles must fit on the campsite and cannot be parked on adjacent roads, driveways or natural areas. **Trailers are limited to 27 ft (8.5 m) in Stanhope campground. Longer equipment must stay in Cavendish Campground. Maximum Camping Units per Site: 2 tents or 1 RV/camper and 1 tent. Generator Policy: The use of generators is only permitted between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
Amperage of Electrical Service Cavendish: 15 and 30 Amp service in all serviced campsites. Select sites with 50 Amp service are available. Stanhope: All Electricity and Water (2 way) sites at Stanhope are 15 Amp and all Electricity, Water and Sewer (3 way) sites at Stanhope are 30 Amp. Fire Policy: Firewood is sold by the bundle. Campfires allowed in designated fire pits only. In order to protect the forests of PEI National Park against invasive species, please do not bring firewood into the park and only use the firewood available for purchase at the campgrounds. Alcohol Policy: In an effort to create a quiet camping experience at the Cavendish Campground in PEI National Park, there will be an alcohol ban in effect during the Cavendish Beach Music Festival. From the Confederation Bridge: Follow Route 1A to Kensington, then follow Route 6 to Cavendish. At the traffic lights, turn left (north) onto Graham s Lane and turn left at the campground entrance. From Charlottetown: Follow Route 2 west to Milton and turn right onto Route 7. Continue through Oyster Bed Bridge where Route 7 becomes Route 6. Follow Route 6 for approximately 20 km. At the second set of traffic lights, turn right (north) onto Graham s Lane and turn left at the campground entrance. From the Wood Islands Ferry: Follow Route 1, the Trans-Canada Highway, west towards and through Charlottetown to Milton and turn right onto Route 7. Continue through Oyster Bed Bridge where Route 7 becomes Route 6. Follow Route 6 for approximately 20 km. From the Confederation Bridge: Follow Route 1, the Trans-Canada Highway, east to Charlottetown. Turn onto the Charlottetown Arterial Highway ( Bypass ) then turn left (north) onto Route 15 toward Brackley Beach. After approximately 19 kilometres you will enter PEI National Park and the Gulfshore Parkway. Follow the parkway for 7.2km until you reach Stanhope Campground on the right. From Charlottetown: Follow the Charlottetown Arterial Highway ( Bypass ) and turn north onto Route 15 heading to Brackley Beach. After approximately 19 kilometres you will enter PEI National Park and the Gulf Shore Highway. Follow the highway for 7.2km until you reach Stanhope Campground on the right. ALL sites at Stanhope Campground have firepits. Trailers are limited to 27 ft long (8.5 m). If longer, they must stay in Cavendish Campground. A charming campground located directly across the road from the beach. All campsites are within walking distance of the beach. (The supervised beach closest to this campground is Stanhope main beach and is located 1 km from the campground.) Hiking and cycling trails are also nearby. Washrooms with showers and flush toilets, kitchen shelters, Laundromat, Playground equipment, and interpretive programs. Communal water taps and a dump station are available. Electricity, Water and Sewer: (20 sites) semi-wooded sites with moderate privacy. These are not drive through sites. Suitable for tent trailers, motorhomes and trailers. Electricity and Water: (73 sites) open sites with poor privacy. These are not drive through sites. Suitable for tents, tent trailers and motorhomes and trailers. Unserviced: (39 sites) some open sites, some partially wooded sites. Privacy poor to moderate. Suitable for tents and tent trailers. Operating Season (Nights) The "Operating Season" is the nights that the campground is open. Sometimes the campgrounds are open for longer than the period for which they accept reservations. Any dates of the "Operating Season" outside of the "Reservable Period" are dates that the campground operates on a first come, first served basis only. Reservable Period (Nights) The "Reservable Period" is the nights for which you can make a camping or accommodation reservation. Note that many campgrounds may be open longer than this period, and operate outside of these dates on a first-come, first-served basis. Kiosk The administration/entrance booth of a particular campground, this is where you check-in and register your arrival. Vehicle Car, truck, motorcycle, truck-camper, motor home, or recreational vehicle. A motor home pulling another vehicle may count as two vehicles. Camping Unit Tent, tent-trailer, truck-camper, trailer, 5 th wheel, motor home or recreational vehicle. Serviced Site
Refers to a campsite offering electrical, water, and/or sewer hook-ups directly on the campsite. Fully-serviced sites offer electrical, potable water, and sewer hook-ups. Unserviced sites do not offer any of these hook-ups. The terms serviced and unserviced refer to the individual campsites; they do not refer to the washroom facilities or other amenities available at the campground. Drive-through Site Campsite where the driver does not have to reverse their vehicle to exit (there is a separate entrance and exit to the individual campsite). Ideal for larger vehicles and trailers. Walk-in Site Campsite which requires some degree of walking to access the site, and therefore requires a tent. Vehicle will be parked a short distance away. Overflow Site Overflow campsites vary from park to park, and may range from a paved area to park a camping unit (not generally suitable for tents) to a more traditional, grassy site. They are unserviced and are not reservable. Accessible Site A campsite which is accessible to guests with limited mobility. Fire Pit A designated structure for campfires located on a campsite. Check availability, as not all campsites offer a fire pit. In some parks, a fire permit is required to have a fire. In some parks, only communal fire pits are available, and access is shared with other guests. Bundles of firewood In this campground firewood is sold by the bundle. First-come, First-served Site Campsites that are available on a first come, first served basis only. These sites are only available to guests who are physically located at the campground. These sites cannot be registered over the telephone or on-line. These campsites may be available for only 1 night or for multiple nights depending on availability. Shoulder Season While many campgrounds remain open outside of their peak season, the services offered during this period may be limited (please check with the park for more details). Entrance Pass
A valid National Park Entrance Pass is required for all visitors to National Parks that have entry fees. Daily Entrance Pass A daily entrance pass permits visitor s unlimited entry to the specified park on a per day basis for the period of time indicated. Annual/Seasonal Entrance Pass An annual or seasonal entrance pass permits visitor s unlimited entry to the specified park for the period of time indicated. Parks Canada Discovery Pass The Parks Canada Discovery Pass permits visitors unlimited entry to the participating Parks Canada national parks and national historic sites across Canada, for a period of 12 months.
