He has taught environmental seminars at Harvard, the National Humanities Center, and for a consortium of nine North American and Asian Universities, including Harvard. A Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, he served as president of the Association of Literary Scholars, Critics, and Writers and belongs to the Cambridge Scientific Club. Long Walk to Freedom Step back in time to the most pivotal moments in South Africa s anti apartheid movement and Nelson Mandela s long walk to freedom with inspiring visits that reveal the historic, 20th-century milestones that culminated in the inauguration of South Africa s first black president and stimulated the most progressive economic, social, political, and educational prosperity the country has seen. In Rivonia, tour Liliesleaf Farm, a key meeting place for members of the African National Congress (ANC) and the liberation movement in the early 1960s. Specially arranged guest speaker Nicholas Wolpe will discuss his role as founder and CEO of the Liliesleaf Farm Trust. Follow in Mandela s footsteps through Soweto, and stand at the Union Buildings in Pretoria, site of Mandela s historic 1994 inauguration following South Africa s first multiracial democratic general election. And, explore UNESCO World Heritage designated Robben Island, the isolated former outpost for political prisoners off the coast of Cape Town. Resilient diversity Ubuntu the essence of being human... It speaks about our interconnectedness. Archbishop Desmond Tutu Discover the diversity of southern Africa, from the flora and fauna along Namibia s Chobe River, in one of Botswana s vast game parks and in South Africa s renowned MalaMala Game Reserve, to Zimbabwe s awe inspiring Victoria Falls the smoke that thunders and South Africa s world class cities of Johannesburg, Pretoria, and Cape Town. Traverse a kaleidoscope of landscapes low lying grassland, expansive highveld, rambling winelands, lush swampland, mountainous escarpments, and breathtaking ocean coastline. In their natural habitats, observe the Big Five African elephant, Cape buffalo, leopard, lion, and rhinoceros and hundreds of bird species. Encounter a mosaic of welcoming people, descendants of the ancient San, Xhosa, Tswana, and Zulu nations, Portuguese explorers and Dutch, British, and German settlers. This cultural mélange of tribes, creeds, and languages holds a rich history that spans from the dawn of humankind to victorious feats of democratic infrastructure, and they are eager to share their friendly ubuntu spirit with you. Scheduled guest speakers may be altered due to circumstances beyond our control.
