SAFARI TO RWANDA AND TANZANIA WITH PROJECT ABLE & KOMERA Specially designed for Project A.B.L.E. and KOMERA Kigali - Parc National des Volcans - Arusha National Park - Mount Kilimanjaro - Mount Kilimanjaro - Tarangire National Park - Ngorongoro Region 21 Days / 20 Nights June 12, 2016 - July 02, 2016

Have you always wanted to visit Africa? Are you looking for a tangible and meaningful way to give back? Do you want to see exactly where your support is going? Then come with us to Rwanda and Tanzania on a trip of a lifetime Combine time visiting two amazing organizations-komera in Rwanda and Project ABLE s Jifundishe Library in Tanzania-with a safari, gorilla trekking, and even hiking Mount Kilimanjaro if you want Come for as much or as little time works for you. The trip is divided into time in Rwanda including Komera s Global Run, time in Tanzania learning about the Jifundishe library s work with the Usa River community and then time on safari, climbing Kilimanjaro or both Pick and choose from any or all parts of this trip and join us You can work with Extraordinary Journeys to customize your trip and add on any extensions or additions. About Komera Komera believes that education and holistic community based care will ensure that vulnerable young women develop into leaders. During your stay with us you will travel the country learning about the culture and have an intimate hands-on experience. You will visit with community members, dance with the Komera Scholars, learn about education in Rwanda, and participate in the Komera Global Fun run. The most important part is spending time with the Komera Scholars and their families. You will visit their homes, learn about their culture and understand how Komera has impacted their lives. We will spend time at local schools, visit our small business cooperatives and have an afternoon of community service You will also have the opportunity to hike with the mountain gorillas, and explore Akagera National Park. For more information on Komera, please visit www.komera.org. About Project ABLE s Jifundishe Free Library Jifundishe funds and manages projects for community development that provide educational opportunities to people living in rural villages in Tanzania. The organization was founded in 2004 and since its inception has successfully implemented projects at libraries, orphanages, schools, health clinics and community centers. During your visit with Jifundishe you will spend time at their library in Usa River, learning about their programs, like the women s micro-finance group or the Independent Study Students and help out by reading or playing games with kids or talking to an English or computer class. You will also have the option of climbing Kilimanjaro or going on safari or both For more information on Project A.B.L.E. or the Jifundishe Free Library, please visit www.projectablefoundation.org. We also ask that you make a commitment to support the Komera Scholars or Project ABLE s projects. Each year we run a crowd funding campaign and we ask that each traveler sets a goal to raise $5000 USD for either Komera or Project ABLE (or both). What easier way is there to fundraise when you can actually share with your friends and family the experience of a lifetime. We will be there to help you launch and manage your campaign

Day 4: Akagera Game Lodge, Rwanda (Wed, June 15) Akagera National Park stretches across a vast expanse of low-lying mountains and savannah plains, taking in the lakes and wetlands of the Kagera River along the way. Crocodiles and hippos wallow in the park s watery basins, predators prowl through its acacia groves, and elephant, zebra, giraffe, buffalo and other animals roam across its grassy plains. After breakfast, depart Kigali to Akagera National Park for an afternoon game drive and overnight. This will be your base for Komera Projects. Overnight: Akagera Game Lodge Akagera Game Lodge is located in Eastern Province; about a 2 hour drive from Kigali. The lodge is within the boundaries of Akagera National Park. Akagera Game Lodge has an attractive setting on a ridge overlooking Lake Ihema. The surrounding area has a wealth of big game and other wildlife on the open savannah, protected wood land, deep valley and lakes. Recognized as a superior venue, Akagera Game Lodge offers a superbly relaxed atmosphere, ideal for a successful conference, retreat, a tranquil gateway or an undisturbed encounter with nature. Breakfast, Dinner

Alternate Accommodation in Akagera: Ruzizi Tented Lodge The Ruzizi Tented Lodge, a 14-bed tented eco-camp linked together using boardwalks, is the first of its kind in Rwanda. Ruzizi is built on the shores of Lake Ihema, Rwanda's second largest lake, tucked away in a tract of unique riverine forest. The construction of the Ruzizi Tented Lodge started in January 2012 and was completed in November 2012. The lodge was designed and built by the Akagera Management Company and employed local builders and labourers. Where possible, natural materials were sourced locally. This made a further contribution to the local economy. The lodge was designed to blend in with the surrounding environment in order to create a feel of being connected to nature. Where possible, trees and vegetation were left undisturbed during the construction, and even incorporated into the structure. Much of the furniture and decorations have been hand-crafted by local artisans and cooperatives. The lodge is powered by solar energy and prides itself on being environmentally friendly. Breakfast, Dinner

PART 2: TANZANIA Day 7: Twiga Lodge, Arusha National Park (Sat, June 18) This exceptionally beautiful area is divided into three parts Mt. Meru, the Ngurdoto Crater and the Momela Lakes which means it has a wide range of habitats. Arusha is not known for its big game viewing but offers a wide range of smaller animals, plenty of birds and breathtaking highland Afromontane forests. This morning, drive back to Kigali with packed lunches for your flight later this afternoon to Tanzania. Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be met and transferred to Twiga Lode or Ngurdoto Lodge, your home for 3 nights while you visit Jifundishe and assist with projects. Overnight: Twiga Lodge Twiga lodge is built in traditional African Bush Home style, with white washed walls, high beams and a thatched roof. It is set in 4 acres of landscaped gardens with a breathtaking view of Mt Meru that towers above us, its ragged peak shaped like a broken tooth. An exposed volcano that collapsed millions of years ago, Mt. Meru is wrapped in lush forest reaching all the way down to us It is the centerpiece of Arusha National Park whose entrance is next door to us, and its thick tropical rain forest, lakes and moorlands are a safe haven for multitudes of wildlife.

Herds of forest elephant march past us on a daily basis, snapping branches and eating to the sound of their rumbling stomachs, whilst giraffe sail pass more elegantly. In the distance Kilimanjaro frames the scene with the promise of true adventure. Alternate Accommodation in Arusha: Ngurdoto Lodge Only a stone s throw away from Arusha National Park at an altitude of almost 1400m, the cozy bungalows at Ngurdoto Lodge serve not only as an ideal starting point for mountain tours taking place on Mt. Meru (4566 m) or for it s neighboring big brother the majestic, snow-capped Kilimanjaro, but also for safaris departing to the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater, the Serengeti and the Tarangire and Lake Manyara National Parks. For an even longer stay the Lodge offers ideal day trips and short excursion possibilities. The Arusha National Park, right on the doorstep, provides an abundant variety of wild animals and is a hiker s paradise. Trips to nearby villages, farms and markets give an excellent insight into the life of the Wameru tribe and visits to a coffee farm or walking safaris with the Maasai living below on the steppe are a few of the many options available to guests staying at the Lodge. Breakfast, Lunch

Day 8: Twiga Lodge, Arusha National Park (Sun, June 19) Choice Day today Choose to decompress at your lodge, a walking safari at Arusha National Park or mountain biking trip near Mount Meru National Forest (walking safari and mountain biking trip are at an additional cost). Kilimanjaro the highest point on the continent, but what makes it all the more impressive is the incredible rise of 4600 m with its snowy peak and glaciers often protruding above the clouds. Few mountains can claim the grandeur of Mt Kili; the breathtaking views of Amboseli National Park in Kenya, the Rift Valley, and the Masai Steppe. And unlike many of the world s other high peaks no climbing is required and even first-time enthusiasts can hike to the top of Africa. Notes Following an early start, you will be met and transferred through to Kilimanjaro International Airport for pick up by Zara Tours. Drive to Londorossi Park Gate for registration and to begin your Kilimanjaro climb. Walk through plantations, farmlands and plains, with the chance to see buffalo, Roan and other antelope. Overnight at Shira Camp One on full board basis. Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Overnight: Shira Camp 1 Day 12: Shira Camp 2, Mount Kilimanjaro (Thu, June 23) An easy day to help acclimatization, and to explore the volcanic rock formations of Shira Plateau. Walk to the summit of Shira Cathedral, a huge buttress of rock flanked by steep pinnacles, before reaching the next camp near Shira Hut (3,840 m.). This campsite has some of the most stunning views on Kilimanjaro, close to the glaciated dome of Kibo and the jagged rim of Shira Plateau. The views from here of Mt. Meru floating on the clouds are simply unforgettable. (4-8 hours walking). Overnight at Shira Camp Two on full board basis. Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Overnight: Shira Camp 2 Day 13: Barranco Camp, Mount Kilimanjaro (Fri, June 24) A morning of gentle ascent and panoramic views, leaving the moorland plateau behind to walk on lava ridges beneath the glaciers of the Western Breach. After lunch near the Lava Tower junction (4,550 m.) descend to the

bottom of the Great Barranco Valley (3,900 m.), sheltered by towering cliffs and with extensive views of the plains far below. [5-7 hours walking]. Overnight at Barranco Camp on full board basis. Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Overnight: Barranco Camp Day 14: Barafu Camp, Mount Kilimanjaro (Sat, June 25) A steep climb up the Barranco Wall leads us to an undulating trail on the south-eastern flank of Kibo, with superb vistas of the Southern Icefields. Lunch is usually taken at Karanga, the last water point, in a steep valley. After lunch, the terrain changes to scree and we climb steeply to reach the Barafu campsite (4,600 m.) by mid-afternoon. The remainder of the day is spent resting in preparation for the final ascent before a very early night. There are often spectacular views to the plains far below from Barafu. (6-8 hours walking). Overnight at Barafu Camp on full board basis. Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Overnight: Barafu Camp Day 15: Mweka Camp, Mount Kilimanjaro (Sun, June 26) Summit Day You will start your ascent by torchlight at about 1 a.m. to be up on the Crater rim by sunrise. The steep climb over loose volcanic scree has some well-graded zig-zags and a slow but steady pace will take us to Stella Point (5,735 m.), in about five or six hours. We will rest there for a short time to enjoy the sunrise over Mawenzi. Those who are still feeling strong can make the two hour round trip from here along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak (5,896 m.), passing close to the spectacular glaciers and ice cliffs that still occupy most of the

summit area. The descent to Barafu is surprisingly fast, and after some refreshment, we continue to descend to reach our final campsite (3,100 m.) at the edge of Mweka Forest. (11-15 hours walking). Overnight at Mweka Camp on full board basis. Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Overnight: Mweka Camp Day 16: Springlands Hotel, Mount Kilimanjaro (Mon, June 27) A gentle descent through lovely forest with lush undergrowth takes us to the National Park gate at Mweka (1,650 m.) (4-6 hours walking) When we finish the climb, there will be a vehicle waiting to meet you and transfer you back to Moshi. Transfer to Springlands Hotel and overnight. Overnight: Springlands Hotel Springlands Hotel near Moshi in Tanzania is an ideal base for mountain walking trips and safaris to Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru and other wilderness areas in Northern Tanzania. Our modern hotel is located on the Southern slopes of Kilimanjaro. Our hotel offers excellent value and high quality at competitive prices. It has a large and modern swimming pool, an airy dining area set in pleasant gardens, and indoor and outdoor bars. The rooms all have spacious tiled en-suite facilities with showers, windows fitted
