executive development seminar Creating, Capturing and Monetizing Value in Distribution ROBERT MAGUIRE Partner at MaguireIzatt LLP Robert Maguire is a recognised authority on the dynamics of buyer/seller relationships and the identification, quantification, and capture of value through innovative contracting and commercial mechanisms. Rob founded his own B2B commercial consultancy after following a career with global management consultancies and blue chip brands. His clients include major players in the transport, energy, Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) and technology sectors. He is guest faculty at leading business schools like London Business School and ESADE in Barcelona the business school of Ramon Hull University. HOW DO YOU CREATE VALUE IN THE DISTRIBUTION PROCESS? The distributor purchaser relationship has changed dramatically in the last 20 years. The growth of corporate and centralized procurement teams increased use of e-procurement platforms and the rise of the intermediary and aggregator has change the distribution interface completely. Where relationships with the end user or technical decision maker were once key to success they are now a necessary but not sufficient factor to ensure long term profitable business with key customers. Procurement now plays a bigger, and often lead role, in the sourcing decision and it brings a different perspective to the market. This session looks at what drives procurement decision making, the common tools used to drive prices down and proposes a strategic approach to value-based contracting that will re-establish the distributor at the centre of a commercial relationship based on profitability and reverse the rush to the bottom commoditisation of distributor knowledge and expertise. WHAT WILL YOU LEARN ABOUT? Procurement mindset Core tools Defining value Mapping value Selling value Getting paid for value WHY DO YOU NEED THIS SEMINAR? HERE ARE 3 REASONS TO ATTEND: 1. Identify value This seminar will provide you with the key concepts and matters to identify the most efficient strategic approach to value-based contracting actions for your company, in regard of its mission and vision. 2. Discuss and learn the best practices Attendees will have the opportunity to discuss openly and to learn about some of the best practices that may positively influence their business, while getting updates about the latest changes in the distributor purchaser relationship. 3. Get in touch with other leaders and peers Networking is a key step to your business success and through this seminar you will have the chance to meet with EPTDA leaders and peers, to talk with them and see how they face these kind of challenges and what is their perspective on the changes faced by this industry. 5

top 10 attractions in tenerife Check out a full list of things to explore www.ritzcarlton.com Undoubtedly Tenerife s greatest symbol, Teide, is Spain s highest peak (3718m) and a slumbering giant of a volcano. It is worth planning an all-day visit to the TEIDE NATIONAL PARK and make sure you don t miss out on the hike to the interior of the crater. Climbs are done daily from 9am till 4pm, and the descents are until 5 pm. With the cable car you can reach up to 3.550m high (special permission required) or settle for the 1.500m level, which will guarantee an astonishing view. LA LAGUNA was the original capital of Tenerife and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999 due to its very well-preserved city center. La Laguna was used as a template for the colonial cities founded in America, such as Old Havana, Lima and Cartagena, which is why their houses and streets looks so similar. A list of the buildings you won t want to miss on your tour includes the La Concepción church, Plaza del Adelantado, the City Hall, Palacio de Nava and Casa de los Capitanes. 8

SIAM PARK is consistently voted as one of the world s best waterparks. Not only does it feature some of the world s best waterslides, a wave pool which creates the highest waves of any pool in the world but also boasts the largest collection of Thai-themed buildings outside of Thailand. Gourmands will find a real concentration of gastronomic powerhouses in Abama, like the two-michelin-star M.B, by Martín Berasategui, and Daniel Franco s one-star Kabuki. But to finish the tour, you mustn t overlook Tadashi Tagami s Kazan Restaurant and El Rincon de Juan Carlos, by the brothers Juan Carlos and Jonathan Padrón. With a wide variety of options, a tour of TENERIFE S GASTRONOMIC WORLD is pure pleasure. MASCA is a small mountain village home situated at 600m above sea level in the Mountains of Teno, home to around 80 inhabitants. Despite its small size, the area boasts a collection of valuable treasures such as the house of Los Avinculados in the hamlet of Piedra, and a tiny 18th century church. It even has a museum and a craft centre that have been set up inside one of the houses. TENO COUNTRY PARK houses several village area and is considered as one of the most beautiful areas of Tenerife. Around these hamlets you will find old ovens that were used for baking tiles or bread, as well as communal threshing floors and shelters that are typically used for livestock in farming areas such as Teno Alto. A small, well-preserved lighthouse stands on the edge from where you will get the best views of the dizzying cliffs of Los Gigantes. 9

One of the most highlyrecommended trips from the south of Tenerife is to PUERTO DE LA CRUZ, offering many interesting places to enjoy such as the Lago Martiánez, a stunning complex of seawater swimming pools and one of the biggest tourist attractions of Tenerife. Puerto de la Cruz is popular due to its beautifully preserved town centre that was declared a Historic-Artistic Site in 1985. ICOD DE LOS VINOS is the precise area of the island where the Malvasia wine was produced for the first time and exported to Europe in the 17th century. While you re here, pay a visit to the Millennium Drago tree the multi-crowned king of Canarian flora. Whether it may have stood for 5000 years or just 650 years, it is a fine specimen of a tree that was once believed to have sprouted from the blood of slain dragons. CUEVA DEL VIENTO (The Cave of Wind coming from the powerful draughts that flow through it) is located in the district of Icod de los Vinos and is the largest volcanic cavity in the European Union, with a length of 18 kilometers. It is a huge labyrinthine network of underground passages, rich in fossils and archaeological remains of the Guanches, the ancient inhabitants of Tenerife. Last but not least, don t bypass the bustling capital of Tenerife, the port of SANTA CRUZ. This good looking and wholly Spanish city is home to evocative, brightly painted buildings, sophisticated shops, excellent museums, a showstopping auditorium, and a tropical oasis of birdsong, fountains and greenery in the city park. Don t forget to pay a visit to the Auditorio de Tenerife, the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Concepción and the Museum of Nature and Man. 10
