Week of Comenius: 1.6.14 the Journey to Italy In the morning Adrian, Ina and I met in front of the Georg-Büchner-School to drive together to Frankfurt International Airport. The others drove in other cars to the airport or were already there. We arrived there at 10:45. At 12:45 the boarding started. Then we flew about 30 minutes to Munich. While we waited for our connecting flight to Bari, we met Team Czech at the gate. So we learned that they will fly with the same airplane. Boarding for this flight started at 15:00. We flew 1 hour and 45 minutes to Bari. We flew over the Alps and saw Venice. Then we flew the whole time along the coast of Italy. The view was very beautiful. COMENIUS 2013-2015 Body & emotion 2
When we landed, we took our luggage and waited for the Spanish Team. All together, we waited for our busses and talked with the other team and had a rest. When busses were at the airport the boys of Team Germany and the Spanish team got into one of the busses and the girls of Team Germany with Team Czech into the other. Then we drove about 1 hour and 20 minutes and saw beautiful landscapes from the sea to hills and valleys. COMENIUS 2013-2015 Body & emotion 3
The bus stopped at the Grazia Deledda School where we met our hosts for the first time. Me and my host went directly home and had lunch. The others had their dinner in a local restaurant. At Savio s (my host brother s) home I had a delicious dinner and I talked with his brother-in-law. 2.6.14 The grand canyon of Laterza and traditional games At 8:45 Savio, Taha, a boy from Team Turkey who also lived at Savio, and me went to the Grazia Deledda School. Where we met to build carpooling to drive to the canyon of Laterza. Also we got there as a present rucksacks with food and water. The rucksacks are designed with the Comenius logo of the Grazia Deledda School. After a short drive we arrived at the car park. At this place we waited for our tour guide, Lino Scarati. When he arrived he told us that the canyon is a natural reserve and that we have to be quiet and don t pull out plants. Then we started to walk. After a short walk we stopped at a little meadow, where he explained something about the plants. So he declared, that the plants are particular, because they can scale down their water consumption when it s dry. One of these plants has a special semen that bores itself into the ground. After this little explanation we walked to a viewing platform where we saw the canyon and the river in its bed. Our guide explained something about the birds who are living there. Next we went to a cave. This cave was washed out by the sea. The canyon and the whole area around was earlier in the earth history in the sea. Also there are growing plants in the stone of the cave that only can grow in this stone. In the cave we had a little break where we ate the Focaccia, something like pizza but its thicker and only covered with tomatoes and herbs. COMENIUS 2013-2015 Body & emotion 5
After the break we went back to the first viewing point. From there we went to other viewing points where we took photos and our guide explained something about the canyon. In total there were three viewing points. When we were at the last we had a longer break. After the break we went back to the car park. There we put our rubbish in the bins. Next we waited for our lift back to the school. From the school we were picked up by our hosts and drove home with them. At home we had lunch and a bit free time. During this time Savio s brother-inlaw said goodbye to us because he had to fly back to the Toscana where he lives COMENIUS 2013-2015 Body & emotion 6
with Savio s sister and his two children. Savio s sister stayed till Sunday with the two children. Also friends of the family were visiting while I was there. At 15:00 Savio, Taha and I drove to Grazia Deledda School. There the Italian students had prepared a show for their traditional games. So the showed us rope skipping, capture the flag and playing beyblade. We, the students of the German team, missed our teachers. They had eaten till 17:00 in a restaurant. Capture the flag When the presentation was finished we all went to the gym and the German team presented Kin-Ball, a sport where you play with a very big ball. First we did some warm ups with the ball. Then we played the game of Kin-Ball with the other teams and later with the students. At 18:00 we went back home to change our clothes if we want. At 19:00 we drove to the Lombardo Radice School where our welcome dinner take place. COMENIUS 2013-2015 Body & emotion 8
There was a buffet in the canteen with a lot of Italian food, for example sausages or pies. As dessert there were different cakes and one special with the logo of the Comenius project logo on it. After the meal in the hall karaoke and dancing started. At 22:00 Taha, Savio and I went back home. COMENIUS 2013-2015 Body & emotion 9
3.6.14 Pasta, the sea, a show and a feast After breakfast Taha and I learned that the visit of Ginosa Marina was cancelled and instead we would do the pasta workshop in the Lombardo Radice School. At this workshop we learned how to make different kinds of pasta, for example Tagliatelle, Orecchiette and Cavatelli. First some elder ladies showed everyone how to make the different kinds of pasta, then some ladies showed us how to do orecchiette and cavatelli. The Italian team wanted to adopt me, because I m so good in making pasta. After the workshop Adrian, Ina, Julia and Ann-Katrin went with their hosts to the city. Taha, I and Savio went back home, where we gave Savio our host presents. He was very happy about our presents. After that we played UNO. After a while Savio asked me whether I want to go with him to the rehearsal of the concert or if I want to go to Adrian. Taha decided to go with Savio and I decided to go to COMENIUS 2013-2015 Body & emotion 10
Adrian. Later I learned that Adrian and his host family had gone to the beach to Ginosa Marina. Also Julia and Ann-Katrin and her host family were there. As we all arrived at Ginosa Marina we noticed that it s very windy but we didn t care about it. So we spend a wonderful time at the beach sunbathing, swimming and playing football. At 18:00 we changed our clothes and went to the cars. When we changed our clothes Adrian noticed that he had forgotten his underwear and belt so he was very embarrassed and he talked the whole walk to the car about this. As Adrian and I arrived at the street a stranger passed by. Suddenly the man turned around and said to us in German Beware, more persons are able to understand German than you think. After a look to his car we saw the license plate. This guy came from Karlsruhe. For Adrian and me it was a very funny moment. Then we went to the car. With the car we drove to a gelateria where everyone got two portions of ice cream. I decided to take chocolate and stracciatella. The others took for example white chocolate or coffee. From the gelateria I drove with Adrian and his host family to their home. There I had the chance to wash myself a bit. When Adrian also was finished we two went to school. At the school the Ginosa Show took place. COMENIUS 2013-2015 Body & emotion 11
The show had special guests, one of them was the Queen. Others were Prince Charles and his wife, the mayor of Ginosa and the principal of the school. In the show we all were introduced in a funny way to Ginosa and Apulia. After the show we all went to the city center where a feast took place. This feast was for our Comenius meeting. Ina s guest sister was singing with two other girls the whole evening. As we arrived at the village square Ann-Katrin, Ina, Julia and I went to a little pizzeria called Il Grifindro. There we ate a really big pizza for only 8. After the meal we went out and talked with residents and our hosts. We walked in a big group around the village square. This we did the whole evening and so we met a lot of interesting persons. COMENIUS 2013-2015 Body & emotion 12
At midnight Taha, Savio and his family and I went back home to sleep. 4.6.14 Castellaneta Marina, a restaurant in Laterza and a lot of pictures We met at 9:00 in front of the school and organized carpools which drove to Castellaneta Marina. So Adrian, Savio, Taha and I drove with Mr. Castria, Savio s father, to a restaurant at seaside in Castellaneta Marina. When all arrived after a short drive we went to the beach. There were a lot of beach chairs and parasols on the part of the beach which belongs to this restaurant. Also there is a beach volley field that also belongs to the restaurant. We went to the first row of beach chairs and put our stuff on it. Then we put off our clothes and went into the water. Everyone said the water is cold but for me it was amazing. Then we went out of the water and had a sunbath. COMENIUS 2013-2015 Body & emotion 13

This we repeated in the next hour. At about 10:30 we started to play beach volleyball. The first match was Turkey vs. Italy and the second Germany vs. Spain. We lost our match and Turkey defeated Italy. COMENIUS 2013-2015 Body & emotion 15
After the matches we had a shower to wash the sand from our skin. Then we went to Mrs. Hochgürtel and talked with her and ate some ice cream. And already it was time to have lunch. We could choose between potatoes and mozzarella and potatoes and sausages for the main course. The starter was noodles with tomato sauce. After lunch our host brothers and sisters went to the rehearsal of the concert that took place on the next day. After lunch we went back to our beach chairs and Adrian began to dig a hole, then he got into the hole when it was knee deep. Next he put the sand back into the hole. Ina and I helped him digging when the sand was higher. When the sand reached his swimming trousers we stopped digging. Then we picked up Mrs. Hochgürtel. She took some pictures of the buried Adrian. Then Adrian went out of the hole and we had a little sandcastle. So Mrs. Hochgürtel stuck the flags of the participants of the Comenius project into it and took also a photo. At 15:40 we had to change our clothes because it was planned that we leave the beach at 16:00. So we waited upstairs at the restaurant for our teachers about a half hour. Ina and Mr. Bürkle went to a local TV station for an interview. After a while Adrian and I went back to the beach chairs where our teachers were still sitting. As we arrived we were asked where we had been because they had been waiting for us. So Adrian went upstairs to pick up the girls. When they arrived we sat down next to our teachers. We spent some time talking. After a while Adrian and I were sent to the restaurant to buy some ice cream. It was a gift of our teachers. In the end we waited till 18:00 at the beach to get back to Ginosa. This extra time was wonderful. When they arrived we drove to school where we were picked up by our hosts. Taha and I drove home, we had a shower and changed our clothes. Then we played with Savio, his little three years old niece and a balloon. At 19:45 we drove with the whole family to a restaurant in Laterza near the church. When we took place we got presents from our host brothers and sisters. The present consisted of an Italian flag, a magnet and a sports bag. The meal were different kinds of pizza for example Magherita and Salami. After the meal the students went outside and took a lot of pictures. At 22:00 Taha, I and our hosts went back home. 5.6.14 The school, recipes, the pizzica and the concert At 9:00 we met at the Grazia Deledda School. There the Italian team showed us their school. So we learned that the yhave a lot of PC-rooms and white boards in the school. After the presentation our hosts went to a rehearsal for the concert this evening. Next there was the team s presentation of the seasonal recipes. At this presentation we had many technical problems. When we had a longer break caused of the problems we started to think about a logo for the Comenius meeting in Czech. COMENIUS 2013-2015 Body & emotion 18
So we decided together that Hatice from Team Turkey will design the logo. After the presentations we had some free time. So Adrian, Julia, Ann-Katrin and I went to the main street to a little resident bakery where we bought delicious Italian biscuits for the flight back to Germany. At this bakery Julia got two stuffed buns as a present. Then we walked to a discounter on the other side of the street to buy sweets. After the little shopping tour we had to return to the school because our host were waiting there to pick us up. From school Taha, Savio and I drove home to have lunch. After lunch we played UNO and Jenga. Next we drove to the Lombardo Radice School to learn the pizzica. The pizzica is a typical Apulian dance. After 45 minutes of learning pizzica we went back home. At home we played a bit and Savio rehearsed a bit for the concert, so Taha and I listened to music. After this it was already 19:30 and so we had to drive to the theatre where the concert took place. The theatre was an old cinema with a stage and the concert was the school concert of the Grazia Deledda School. On the stage were an orchestra and a choir. They started the concert at 20:00 and played for approximately three hours. In my opinion they played excellent. COMENIUS 2013-2015 Body & emotion 20
After the concert the principal of the school hold a thank speech. Next they showed us a video and after this the students had prepared a little extra for us. Then the concert was finished. After all we went home and slept a bit. 6.6.14 The day of departure and pain of parting At 8:00 we met in front of the school to say fare to everyone well and to depart. At the school we went into different the busses. Also some of the students had tears in the eyes caused by the pain of parting. So we left the school and drove to the airport in Bari. During the drive I had my head full of thoughts about the wonderful food and time there. When we arrived at the airport we did our check in and the teachers invited us to frozen yoghurt. Then we went into the security area where we waited for the boarding. After boarding the plane started and we flew the same route as the route on the flight to Bari. In Munich we had 2 hours and 35 minutes waiting time. In this time we talked and drunk free hot drinks from the machines. At 15:45 the boarding to our flight to Frankfurt started. Then we flew half an hour. After landing we took our luggage, we said goodbye to each other and then we left the airport. Adrian and I drove with Mr. and Mrs. Hochgürtel to the Georg-Büchner-School where my mum picked me up. But before we could drive back, Adrian, Mrs. Hochgürtel and I had an odyssey through terminal 1 of the airport but that s a whole different story. COMENIUS 2013-2015 Body & emotion 22
