Itinerary Key: Breakfast Lunch Dinner Drink Afternoon Tea Longer walks and steps may be involved on this day 1 Fly to Kraków Meet your One Traveller representative at the main departure airport and fly to Kraków. On arrival, transfer to the four-star Jordan Galaxy Hotel for a four-night stay. If flying from a regional airport you will be met by our representative in Kraków and escorted to the hotel. Afternoon: time permitting visit the Oskar Schindler museum just a few hundred yards from your hotel. Evening: relax, unpack and unwind before included welcome drinks in the bar, followed by dinner in the hotel restaurant. 2 Kraków city tour Morning: your comprehensive city tour will take in the highlights of Kraków, including Wawel Hill and the magnificence of the old town with the buglers of St. Mary s Church and the Cloth Hall. Afternoon: amble the pedestrianised city at your leisure; enjoy excellent value for money lunches and drinks at one of the many pavement cafés.
Evening: dinner and a drink in the hotel. 3 Kraków Optional Auschwitz visit Full Day: a memorable (optional) tour of Auschwitz I and Birkenau (Auschwitz II). A moving and poignant visit and reflective memorial. Evening: included Chopin concert in fine surroundings followed by dinner and a drink in the city. 4 Historic Jewish Quarter tour and free afternoon Morning: an included guided tour of Kraków s historic Jewish quarter and working synagogue (on the doorstep of your hotel). Afternoon: free to enjoy Kraków. Evening: dinner and drink at a local restaurant at the foot of Wawel Castle. 5 Wieliczka Salt Mines - Zakopane Morning: a privately guided tour of one of the first wonders to be placed on UNESCO s World Heritage List. See the underground salt chapels and life-sized salt carvings and chandeliers. Afternoon: drive to the beautiful Tatra Mountain resort of Zakopane and check-in to your hotel in the heart of the resort, and within yards of all its amenities, for three nights. Evening: Polish highlander show including dinner and drinks. 6 Zakopane Morning: a morning tour of the local surroundings. The tour will be partly by coach and partly on foot. You will see the famous ski jumps (where Eddie the Eagle soared) and the Chapel in the Woods. You will also be taken to the local town of Chocholow with its preserved 19th-century wooden architecture and see cheese-making, a toy carving demonstration and the local wood carvers. Afternoon: at leisure in Zakopane to enjoy the open air market or
take a ride on the funicular to some stunning viewpoints. Evening: dinner and drink in the Hotel Sabala s atmospheric restaurant. 7 Zakopane Lake Morskie Oko Morning: a short drive to where you will board horse-drawn carts that will take you on a scenic ride up to Lake Morskie Oko (Sea Eye). The lake is located in the Tatra Mountains at Dolina Rybiego Potoku (Fish Stream Valley) with postglacial origins and is truly stunning. The crystal clear water gives it an amazing emerald colour. Afternoon: free to take in the beautiful mountain scenery. Music lovers should visit the Villa Atma, former home and museum to the composer Karol Szymanowski, almost unknown outside Poland but considered second only to Chopin. Evening: farewell dinner and drinks in the hotel. 8 Depart for the UK After breakfast transfer to Kraków airport for your return flight to the UK. Included excursions Guided tour of Krakow A half day guided sightseeing part coach and part walking tour with an official guide to see the best of this historic city. You will depart the hotel by coach and drive to the Wawel Hill Castle complex. This is where the late Pope John Paul II began his career. After a tour of the castle grounds and a tea break you will walk along the Royal route to the centre of Krakow where you will see the world famous Cloth Hall (Sukiennice), the famous university of Krakow where the astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus studied and taught and the Town Hall. Guided walk of historic Jewish quarter This tour will take you to the historic quarter of Kazimierz with its famous Jewish quarter. Towards the end of the 15th century the Jews created their own town and it became one of the greatest centres of Jewish religion and culture in Europe. Our tour will start from the hotel with a ten minute walk to Sheroka Street (the heart of the Jewish town) and then a stroll along the cobbled streets to discover synagogues and the
unique atmosphere of the area. Time will be given for a tea break (at extra cost) at Nowy square which is full of life with its cafés and pubs. Then you will continue to visit the famous Remuh Synagogue together with its beautiful cemetery. Chopin concert and dinner In Krakow you will be taken by coach into the city centre to enjoy a Chopin concert in fine surroundings. After the concert a two course meal including tea or coffee will be served in a very atmospheric restaurant in the city centre. Guided tour of the Wieliczka Salt Mines This awe-inspiring mine complex was one of the very first monuments to be placed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Approximately 30 minutes by coach outside Krakow, this is one of Poland s biggest highlights 1.2 million visitors come annually. See life size sculptures carved by hand from salt, including a stunning chapel and a statue of Pope John Paul II. During World War II the Nazis used the mine for warrelated production. There are hundreds of kilometres of passageways but don t worry you won t be walking that far! Notable visitors include Nicolaus Copernicus and Bill Clinton. Our own guide will dazzle us in a tour lasting approximately 2.5 hrs. Whilst in the mines you will walk for about 2km in total in fairly relaxed stages. Zakopane Often referred to as the Winter Capital of Poland Zakopane has only 28,000 inhabitants. Located at the foot of the Tatra Mountains on the Polish/Slovak border the town boasts some of Poland s most stunning scenery. The highest Polish town has a local culinary specialty a tasty cheese which you will have the opportunity to taste. On this morning tour of the area you will also visit the nearby village of Chocholow with pretty wooden architecture where local crafts and traditional trades are still on display. Polish Highlander Folklore Show (with dinner) The local Polish minority highland populations put on a show of folk songs, dance and traditional music. The costumes are colourful and embellished with embroidery of patterns that date back hundreds of years. Morskie Oko Just a short drive from Zakopane you will board horse-drawn carts that will take you on a scenic ride up to Lake Morskie Oko (Sea Eye). Morskie Oko is the largest and fourth deepest lake in the Tatra Mountains. It is located deep within the Tatra National Park at Dolina Rybiego Potoku (Fish Stream Valley) at the base of the Mięguszowiecki summits with postglacial origins. The crystal clear water gives it an amazing emerald colour and is truly stunning. Optional excursions
Guided tour of Auschwitz This is a deeply moving experience and a must for anyone even distantly interested in World War II. Auschwitz was the largest of Nazi Germany s concentration and extermination camps and under Camp Commandant Rudolf Hess 1.1 million people died there. The tour is moving, informative and fascinating as well as a respectful memorial to the victims and educative reminder for future generations. Next door to the shopping centre Galeria Kasimierz (open daily till 22.00) and on the river where there are walking and cycling paths direct to the Wawel Castle and the old town.
