Small Allegany County Community Newsletter Allen Outlook Torrential Rain Major Local Damage JULY 2015 July 14 State Emergency was put into effect in Town of Granger after heavy rain moved through Northern Allegany County Tuesday afternoon. Jeff Luckey, the Director of Emergency Services, reported of water rescues near the Town of Angelica and resulting in a travel advisory in the Town of Granger where several dirt roads were closed. Kenny and Carol Thompson suffered devastating damage to their home and property on County Road 15A in the Town of Allen. Prior to the July 14th storm, Kenny and Carol were recuperating from a recent electrical fire that damaged their home. Kenny, struggling with health issues was taken to the hospital for observation. The raging water virtually emptied their storage shed and carried their belongings across the road to other areas. The water damage has currently rendered the residence inhabitable and they are presently staying with their son. If you would like to help Kenny and Carol, you may visit: www.gofundme.com/zgdrps. All donations would be greatly appreciated. Notice the water line on the truck tire Clean up begins. The Aftermath.

Page 4 Epsom Salt in the Garden Epsom salt has so many uses, including aiding in a beautiful and healthy garden. It s rich in magnesium and sulfate which are crucial to plant life. For potted plants, mix a couple of tablespoons of the salt into your watering can once or twice a month. You can also sprinkle it in your garden s soil to help your seeds germinate better. Tomatoes and peppers benefit the most because they both tend to have a magnesium deficiency. Add a tablespoon or so in with the soil when first planting, and then sprinkle more into the soil once mature. Letters to the Editor Shirley Hennard would like to find a home for her 3yr old male Chihuahua, Harvey. He is long haired in-tact, currently licensed in the Town of Allen until April 2016 and his rabies vaccination is good until April 2018. He is shy but lovable and just a bit much for her to handle right now. If interested contact Shirley or Dan Hennard. (585) 567-8802
