Dear WWOOFer or Volunteer, Here is some supportive information to ease your travel to Bali and join us in experiencing Balinese life in our organic garden and retreat center. Insurance Please have valid health and travel insurance prior to your arrival. Visa In order to get a visa, your passport needs to be valid for six months after entering Indonesia. Visa requirements are different for various countries. Please search the internet for the closest Indonesian consulate for the visa requirements for your country of origin. Many countries enjoy a free visa entry into Indonesia. This will give you a 30 day stay. However, if you wish to stay longer, you can purchase a tourist visa upon entering Bali at the airport. The cost is US$ 35.00 in cash. Presently it is possible to extend your visa for an additional 30 days at the Ubud post office. You can also apply for a 60-day tourist at the Indonesian embassy in your country. This needs to be done prior to your travel to Indonesia. An alternative arrangement is available for long-term volunteers and interns. We need to invite you on a social visa and you can apply for the visa from the Indonesian embassy in your home country. This visa is valid for 2 months and can be extended once you are in Indonesia on a month-by-month basis for 4 extra months (total 6 months). You will have to register at the immigration office at Denpasar after your arrival for a first time.

Latest and newest requirements by Indonesian immigration Legally no one on a tourist or a social visa entering Indonesia is allowed to work as a volunteer or doing an internship in Indonesia. Up to now this was never a problem being a grey zone and no one objected to the many volunteers working here. With a new administration this has changed and we are obliged to apply after your arrival for a work permit month by month for each volunteer and intern. The new fee per month levied by immigration is $ US 150.00 for a tourist visa working permit and USD$ 150.00 for a social visa holder. This legalizes your working contribution as a volunteer and as an internship participant. For a couple it is USD$ 200.00. This amount is paid by the volunteer or intern. We do appreciate the supportive presence of past intern, volunteers and future ones at Jiwa Damai. Please contact us for any details concerning this newly applied regulation. Getting to Jiwa Damai An airport transfer arranged through us to Jiwa Damai is US$ 35 (approx. IDR 350 000). Please re-confirm via email your arrival time at least one week in advance and let us know if you would like us to book you a car and driver to collect you. If you make your own way here, please print out the directions to Jiwa Damai from the website www.jiwadamai.net (go to contact). You need to tell the driver that once he gets close to Mambal Market, go in the direction of Ubud, Furama Villas (most drivers know this neighboring boutique hotel). Once you enter the village of Banjar Bindu, please take the second road to the right, next to the Bale Banjar, just opposite a small store on Jl Melati 3. Then go down the road and turn into the parking lot next to our sign. Please bring: A good flashlight as power may occasionally fail and pathways can be dark at night Refillable water bottle Your passport or passport copy International drivers license if you plan to rent a vehicle. Long sleeves and sunscreen to protect you from the sun. You may also wish to bring natural Bug spray. We offer natural bug spray for purchase when you arrive

Other information Please be aware that you will need to pay for the following in cash: One way transfer from and to the airport, IDR 350 000. Exit tax IDR 200 000 at the airport when leaving Bali via the airport. Registration in Br Bindu with local Police and area administration and police IDR 135 000 on arrival at Jiwa Damai (Jiwa Damai will handle the registration process for you). Traveling into the nearby town of Ubud and back by taxi will cost approximately IDR 100 000 each way. If you catch a ride on the back of a motorcycle, it is cheaper (maybe IDR 30 000-50 000). Access to internet and Skype at our place is available at IDR 20 000 per hour or each log in, to be paid upon using. We suggest you check to see if you can use a local phone chip / SIM card for mobile data. The nearest ATM machines are about 2-3 km from Jiwa Damai and there are no money changers within walking distance. We do not support smoking or drinking alcohol or drugs at Jiwa Damai. Thank you. Arrival at Jiwa Damai We will show you around Jiwa Damai to acquaint you with the buildings and area. If you are interested in a particular area of the agro-permaculture garden, organic toilet, compost, our EM approach, office support, or the various projects of the foundation, please discuss with our staff and find out where your support is most appreciated. As far as our three Balinese dogs are concerned, Anggrek, Salju and Blackie, please disregard their barking totally and don t try to make friends until they approach you. That is the best way to become acquainted with them. Please keep footwear on while walking outside the tiled areas and keep out of the thick under brush. One of our co-inhabitants is Alu, a local type of a water monitor lizard which eats fish in the pond. Once in awhile you will see a snake. The Tokek, a real noise maker, is a large gecko which eats insects. The chicha are the smaller, more common geckos and can move very fast across the ceilings. We do not have poisonous spiders here.

We very much appreciate your support with the following: Using the various facilities, we invite you to keep these impeccably clean after usage as well as the common seating areas. This means to adjust the pillows on the couch after leaving the seating area. You will be provided with a set of clean sheets, pillowcase, blanket and towel. Before leaving please wash and return them clean. If you cannot do this, please pay IDR 50 000 and we will have it laundered. Please leave the place and your sleeping facility as clean as when you came. We have two bicycles to use. You may use them free of charge, however, we ask you to make a deposit of US$ 50 or IDR 500 000 when using the bikes. If you wish to go into Ubud or Denpasar, sometimes one of our team goes by motorcycle or our staff with a car and driver. You may come along and share the cost. The cleaning duties (bathroom, kitchen, etc., ) will be shared amongst staff and volunteers. We invite volunteers to stay a minimum of a four weeks or longer. We recommend that initially each volunteer have a one-week try to see if it is a win-win situation for both, before continuing the relationship. We invite you to work six hours per day, five days a week. Times and days off can be discussed after your arrival. We offer accommodation and three meals per day. We provide Balinese food, which is mostly organic vegetarian (rice, vegetables and tofu or tempeh). If you wish to have Western food or additional snacks, such as bread and butter or chocolate, we ask that you purchase it yourself. We have a small fridge in the volunteer area available for you. When volunteer facilitators are available we offer morning yoga and evening meditation free of charge. Access to the pool is available after 5 pm. Our team may invite you to local ceremonies to get acquainted with the Balinese culture. We encourage you to enjoy the experience, please be respectful.

Accommodation We offer three options for accommodation, sharing with one other volunteer. You will be provided with clean bed linen and towel. The Balinese-style Lumbung This open loft has a straw roof and mosquito net and two single mattresses that can also be made up as a double bed. The Kubu This closed room includes a bunk bed with single mattresses.

The Banyan Room This dormitory style closed room includes two single beds. Shower and Toilet You may also use the open shower and the Balinese toilet.
