Schedule and information Experience of Nature 2017 Tuesday 22th August Room Not available yet (N/A) Time: 0830 1300 (afj@uin.no, tel. +47 97 97 42 15) Subjects: Introduction to the course Introduction to Class-fronter Field based activities (in Geology) - a short introduction The formation of continents Last Ice Age in the Salten region Tuesday 22th August Time: 1700 1900 Bus goes from the university to Orestad park Clothing The coastal climate in Northern Norway is unpredictable. Temperatures varies between 6-20 0 C, in worst cases down to 3-4 0 C on the glacier. You have to expect precipitation and you will walk on uneven ground, incl. a glacier. We therefore recommend waterproof outdoor clothing and warm inner clothing (e.g. wool underwear and fleece or wool sweater). Mittens, a beanie, a day-walking sack, and sunglasses is required on a day-trip on the glacier. You also need ankle high light mountain boots that fits crampons. A thermos for hot drinks is warmly recommend, for our outdoor-lunches! We will meet up at the Hurtigruta-harbour and start 1700 (see map). You can take the bus from the university (Route 1) to bus-stop Orestad park downtown and walk to the harbour on the premises of the tour-provider Stella Polaris (see sign) close to the harbour-office, c. 15 min walk from the bus-stop. If you take the bus 1621 from the university you will be there in time. Clothing: Use boots that survive some seaspray other clothing/equipment will be provided by Stella Polaris.

Thursday 24 th August Room N/A Time: 0830 1300 Subjects: Last Ice Age in the Salten region Introduction to field-working Earthcaching Friday 25 th August 0830 1600: Field trip in Salten one day round-trip in geology Meet up at the main entrance at the university 0830. We will be out the whole day, so bring with you cloths to stay warm and dry, and lunch/something to drink. Wednesday Friday: 30 th August 01 th September: 3 days round trip Bodø Engabreen Start: Meet up at the main entrance of the campus 0830 Wednesday Teachers: Arne Fjalstad Accommodation: 2 nights at Furøy camping at Halsa in Meløy. We will stay in cabins which are equipped with all needed kitchenware. You can either bring with you sleeping bag or rent bedclothes (incl. bath towel). Equipment for the tour on the glacier: Crampons, ice-axe etc. will be provided by the touroperator. Lunches: All lunches will be outdoor, so prepare and bring with you lunches, and something to drink, for all three days. We will do shopping in supermarkets in the evenings. Wednesday We will drive towards Meløy municipality and end up at Furøy camping in the evening. We will have some stops on the route. Arrival at Furøy c. 7 p.m. Thursday Start: Meet up at the car park 0900 (may be changed due to boat-trip) A day on and at the glacier Engabreen. Take with you lunch and something to drink. Remember warm clothing and sunglasses (see textbox about clothing)! Friday Start: Meet up at the car park 0900

On the way back to Bodø we will have som stops on different localities. Arrival Bodø c. 1630. Thursday 7th September Meet up 0900 at Mørkvedhallen Time: 0900-1600 Teacher: Esten Skullerud Subject: Canoeing on lake Vatnvatnet You need: notebook, pen/pencil, warm clothes as recommended on the glacier (see first page), extra set of dry clothes stored in waterproof plastic bag (just for safety), drinking cup box lunch, soft drink, sausages or hamburger to heat at open fire, sweets/chocolate. Take with you camera (stored waterproof), binoculars, and seating pad, if you have. Friday 8 th September Meet up 1015 at the main entrance at the university or at Flatvold dormitory (by appointment). Time: 1015-1500 Teachers: Arne Fjalstad Subject: Field trip to the famous and beautiful beach Mjelle c. 20 km NE of Bodø towncentre. You need: warm, dry clothes, lunch box and something to drink, pencil and a small notebook, a camera if you have.
