DAY 2 MONDAY: ARRIVE IN MADRID, SPAIN Check into your hotel. The rest of the day is free to start exploring lively Madrid. Tonight, meet your Tour Director and fellow travelers and enjoy a Welcome Dinner with wine at your hotel. Overnight in Madrid. (B,D) Madrid Cibeles Fountain Madrid financial district Madrid is located in the heart of the Iberian Peninsula, with a population of over 3 million. It s a city characterized by intense cultural and artistic activity. Madrid traces its origins to the year 882 ac and features museums & monuments of extraordinary beauty. DAY 3 TUESDAY: MADRID & TOLEDO After a hearty buffet breakfast, join a morning guided sightseeing tour including a full panoramic drive by way of the Avenida Mayor, Puerta del Sol, Parliament Square, and a picture stop outside the Royal Palace. In the afternoon, we will head for the city of Toledo, walking through the ancient Jewish Quarter before visiting the Santa Maria la Blanca Synagogue, the oldest synagogue in Europe still standing. Toledo Alzazar - Historical Fortress Ancient city door DAY 4 WEDNESDAY: MADRID AVILA SALAMANCA LISBON, PORTUGAL After breakfast, we head west to visit fortified Avila with its many towers. Next is Salamanca, just six miles from the spot where Wellington routed Napoleon s army in 1812. Make sure you spend some time wandering around Plaza Mayor, the grandest square in Spain. Then across the frontier to Lisbon. Dinner with wine and overnight in Lisbon. (B,D) Avila, birthplace of Mother Teresa de Jesus Salamanca- Plaza Mayor DAY 5 THURSDAY: LISBON Henry the Navigator made Lisbon the 15th-century Mistress of the Seas. On your guided sightseeing tour you ll see the enormous monument dedicated to him, as well as the fortified 16th-century Belém Tower, the Moorish citadel, impressive Black Horse Square, and the Cathedral La Sé and Jerónimos Monastery, which dates back to the mid-1400s. Spend the afternoon in the Alfama s tile-decorated streets, or take
advantage of Lisbon s great shopping. Overnight in Lisbon (B) LISBON is the capital of Portugal, a charming town, full of his- tory and beautiful buildings. The streets still keep the ancient flavor of its rich past history. Portuguese food is simply delicious. DAY 6 FRIDAY: LISBON SEVILLE, SPAIN After breakfast, departure along the rolling plains of the Alentejo with its woodlands of cork and eucalyptus trees, southwards all the way to the brilliant light of Andalusia. Admire its neat white-painted villages and sun-drenched plantations of olives, figs, and almonds, while traveling by way of Beja into magnificent Seville. Dinner with wine and overnight in Seville (B,D) DAY 7 SATURDAY: SEVILLE After breakfast, enjoy a superb sightseeing tour of Seville, the capital of Andalucia, one of Spain s most colorful cities. The fourth largest in Spain, this is a city humming with
life and prosperity, holding magnificent buildings and monuments, and considered the most popular and attractive in the whole country. Our visit will start with the Alcazar, which served both as Palace and Fort, and will continue in the Cathedral, a unique beauty all its own combining old Arabic and Christian architecture. The cathedral was built on top of a former mosque and is now the third largest in the world. Adjoining to it, the Giralda tower stands 322 feet high. We continue our visit to the Barrio de Santa Cruz, the old Jewish quarter where we will ramble along the narrows streets with it small bars and restaurants, the beautiful Maria Luisa Park with its sunken gardens, the decorative fountains, and the lovely "azulejos"(tiles) in the Plaza de España, a semicircular square with a great building around it. We finish our trip to Seville with a drive over the Isla de la Cartuja area, where the Universal Exposition took place in 1992. Overnight in Seville (B) SUNDAY DAY 8 SEVILLE FERRY TO MOROCCO FEZ An interesting drive today starts with views of the sherry wine region before reaching the coast for embarkation on the ferry to Morocco. Next, motor south along what was once northern Africa s infamous Barbary Coast. Join the new motorway for the drive southwards, and then west, bypassing Meknes, for Dinner with wine & overnight in Fez. (B,D) MONDAY DAY 9 FEZ Buffet Breakfast. Full tour of the first imperial city of Morocco, founded in the 9th century. Visit of the Jewish and Christian Quarters, the Royal Palace (from the outside), the Medina (declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO) with its mosques and

Dinner with wine is included in your hotel tonight. Overnight in Granada (B,D) DAY 15 SUNDAY: GRANADA CITY TOUR AND ON TO MADRID Morning city tour will include the Alhambra Palace. Alhambra is an Arabic word that means red, the color of its fortified walls. Built during the 13th and 14th century, it took nearly 100 years to be completed. Visit includes the Court of the Myrtle s, the Court of the Lions, the Hall of Secrets, the Hall of the Ambassadors, and the Alcazaba, the castle that guarded the Palace. We will also visit the beautiful gardens of the Generalife with its green water gardens and the fountains that inspired several famous Spanish composers. Over the centuries the Alhambra gradually fell into ruins but, curiously, it was the American Author Washington Irving who helped prod the city into having the monument restored. Irving lived in the palace early in the 19th century, where he wrote his book "Tales of the Alhambra". Now the Alhambra is completely restored and rebuilt. This afternoon, drive into the very heart of La Mancha, famed for its castle and windmills arriving in Madrid in time for a Farewell Dinner with wine at your hotel. Overnight in Madrid.
