DAY 3 WEDNESDAY - MADRID & TOLEDO Toledo Buffet breakfast. This morning's escorted sightseeing tour will allow you to get a glimpse of some of Madrid's most outstanding attractions, like the Puerta del Sol, the magnificent fountains of Neptune and Cibeles, the stately Alcala Gate, the busy Gran Via, the Plaza de España, and the Plaza de Oriente. Lunch is included today. In the afternoon we will take you on a tour to the Imperial former capital city of Toledo, where you will be escorted through its narrow cobblestone streets, soaking up the medieval atmosphere. Touring will include the interior of the magnificent Gothic cathedral and a visit to St. Tome Church, where El Greco's masterpiece painting is displayed. There will also be some time for shopping for the unique typical local artisanry. Overnight in Madrid. (B, L) DAY 4 THURSDAY - MADRID-MALAGA VIA AVE HIGH-SPEED TRAIN After buffet breakfast at your hotel in Madrid, transfer to Atocha train station to board he AVE (High Speed Train) to Malaga (Andalucia). Travel time 2h:45 minutes. Arrival at Malaga station where you will be and transferred to your beachfront hotel in Torremolinos. Rest of day at leisure. Dinner with wine at the hotel tonight. (B, D) DAY 5 FRIDAY - EXCURSION to GRANADA and the ALHAMBRA PALACE After a delicious buffet breakfast, we travel along the coast and through the mountains of Malaga towards Granada. Halfway we will stop briefly in Loja. When we approach the city we will see the white peaks of the Sierra Nevada. Our tour will take us to "The Alhambra", which is an Arabic word which means red, the color of its walls. Built during the 13 and 14 centuries, it took almost 100 years to complete. Our visit includes the Patio de los Arrayanes, Court of the Lions, the Chamber of Secrets, Salon of the Ambassadors
and the Alcazaba Castle, which protected the Palace. We will also visit the Generalife gardens with their beautiful fountains that inspired several famous Spanish composers. Over the centuries the Alhambra gradually fell into ruins, but, interestingly, it was the American author Washington Irving who encouraged the city to restore the monument. Irving lived in this Palace in the early 19th century, where he wrote his book "Tales of the Alhambra". The Alhambra is now completely restored and rebuilt. In the afternoon we return to the Coast. (B, D) The Alhambra Palace in Granada, Andalucia, Spain DAY 6 SATURDAY- EXCURSION to SEVILLE the CAPITAL of ANDALUCIA After breakfast, we leave on our excursion to Seville by motor coach passing through the beautiful scenery of the Andalusian countryside and the typical villages such as Antequera, Estepa and Osuna. We finally arrived at Seville, which is the fourth largest city of Spain and enjoys life and prosperity with its magnificent buildings and monuments. It is considered to be the most popular and attractive of the country. Our visit will begin with the fortress, which served both as a Palace and fortress, and will continue in the Cathedral of unique beauty with its own combination of old Arabic and Christian architecture. The Cathedral was built on an ancient Mosque. We continue our tour to the Barrio de Santa Cruz, the old Jewish quarter where we will walk through the narrow streets with small cafés, bars, and restaurants. We will visit the beautiful square of María Luisa Park with its sunken gardens, decorative fountains and beautiful "tiles" of the Plaza
of Spain, a semicircular structure with a large building around it. We finish our trip to Seville with a panoramic view over the Island of de la Cartuja, where the Universal exhibition of 1992 took place. Dinner with wine at the hotel. Overnight in Torremolinos. (B, D) Seville, Andalucia DAY 7 SUNDAY: COSTA DEL SOL GRAND TOUR OF MOROCCO Early departure by motor coach to Algeciras (75 miles) to board the ferry crossing the straits of Gibraltar to Ceuta, a Spanish enclave in North Africa (one hour), continue to the Moroccan border for passport control and proceed directly to Fez with a brief stop enroute (187 miles).
