In order to contribute to the analysis and interpretation of data, the evolution of the monthly rate of public transport passengers in the last years is shown in the following chart. City transport City transport was used by more than 175.0 million passengers in August, 6.3% more than in the same month of 2015. Metro transport registered an increase of 3.1%, with increases in all cities, except in Bilbao ( 0.7%) and Málaga (-4.3%). Metro transport in Palma registered the greatest increase (14.3%). In turn, bus transport annual rate increased by 8.4%. This transport increases in all cities with metro transport. The number of passengers of bus transport increased in all Autonomous Communities. Comunidad de Madrid (17.4%), País Vasco (9.9%) and Comunitat Valenciana (9.1%) registered the greatest increases. Inter-city transport More than 93.1 million passengers used inter-city transport in August, representing a 5.1% increase as compared with the same month of 2015. Maritime transport increased by 17.4%, bus transport increased by 7.0%, air transport increased by 3.5% and rail transport increased by 2.2%. Local distance passengers increased by 11.8% for bus transport and increased by 2.3% for rail transport. Regional distance passengers decreased by 0.7 for bus transport and increased by 2.3% for rail transport. Finally, long distance passengers decreased by 2.5% for bus transport and increased by 2.1% for rail transport. The number of special transport passengers increased 4.6%, reaching more than 5.4 million users. Within this, school transport increased by 2.2%, and work transport increased by 4.6%.
