The Pine Lodge is set in Selva di Val Gardena/Wolkenstein in Groden, among the mountains Sassolungo, Puez and the Sella Massif. Part of the valley of Val Gardena, Selva is best known for skiing and rock climbing, and woodcarving which has flourished here since the 17th century. Home to three cultures Italian, Austrian, and the native Ladin, most signage in Val Gardena is written in three languages Italian, German, and Ladin! Situated in a lovely spot on the sunny side of Selva di Val Gardena/Wolkenstein in Groden, the Pine Lodge is located in perhaps the most prestigious location on the world famous Sellaronda, in the heart of the Dolomites. A 2-5 minute walk takes you to the village center. Even more importantly for skiers, the closest ski lifts are just 300 meters (984') from the chalet, while on your return you can ski back to within 200 meters of the chalet. For summer walkers, it goes without saying that wonderful hikes start from right outside the door. 2
Details Day 1 ~ Arrive in Selva Val Gardena Arrive in Selva di Val Gardena (or Wolkenstein, as it s referred to in German, 1,563m / 5,128 ) in the heart of Italy s South Tyrol by helicopter (single or twin engines available) from your arrival airport. Selva is a quaint alpine town nestled in the Dolomites and an excellent center for all levels of skiing, surrounded by glorious Dolomite peaks of all shapes, gentle pastures and dramatic rock faces. Upon arrival enjoy a well deserved aperitif with the chalet owners and meet the in-house chef & butler. D Pine Lodge Chalet, Selva Day 2 ~ Explore Val Gardena/Alpe di Siusi ski area In the morning meet your local English speaking UIAGM/IFMGA professional mountain guide for a trip briefing and enjoy your first ski day in the area. The marvellous Val Gardena invites all winter sports enthusiasts to explore its innumerable pistes and descents. Efficient modern lift systems ensure a comfortable ski holiday in Val Gardena / Alpe di Siusi, world-renowned for its champions. A total of 175km / 108,7 miles of dream slopes that run as far as the eye can see, served by 79 lifts! Winter sports in Val Gardena are not just a tradition, but in fact reveal their most attractive side. The slopes that depart from the suggestive villages of Ortisei, S. Cristina and Selva reach the imposing Dolomite peaks of Sassolungo, Sciliar, Odle, Cir and Sella, with access to the famous Sellaronda.The wide, generous and gentle slopes of the highest Alp in Europe, Alpe di Siusi, are a veritable paradise for beginners and families with children. B,D Pine Lodge Chalet, Selva Day 3 ~ Cortina D Ampezzo, Cinque Torri & Lagazuoi After breakfast, a short panoramic 15 min helicopter ride takes you to the stunning Averau mountain, in the Cortina D Ampezzo valley. The 360 degrees view in front of your eyes is just breath-taking, with the Setsass, Lagazuoi, Tofane mountain massifs right in front of your eyes. Ski in the area of Cinque Torri, Passo Falzarego and take the Lagazuoi cable car, which arrives at an altitude of 2,800 meters (9,186') in just three minutes! Once you reach the top, stop to enjoy the breathtaking panorama from the terrace of the Rifugio Lagazuoi, famous throughout the world for its spectacular views of the Dolomite peaks. When you re ready to descend, you re in for a treat! The Armentarola slope unfolds along the foot of the imposing Fanes mountain, in an enchanting fairy-tale valley surrounded by majestic castles of rock and frozen waterfalls, making this magical descent an endless flow of thrills and surprises. And just like in the fairy-tales, the run ends with a horse-drawn lift from where you can connect with the ski area of Alta Badia from where you can continue skiing towards Val Gardena. Day 4 ~ Marmolada glacier In the morning, take a short 10 minutes helicopter ride to Malga Ciapela, where you'll find the first of the three cable cars taking you up to the Marmolada Glacier. Known as the Queen of the Dolomites, Marmolada (3,350m / 10,990') is the highest peak and the only glacier in these mountains. You will get our full share of stunning views all around you, including the Catinaccio, Sassolungo, Sella, and Gran Vernel. The descent from the top of glacier is an adrenaline boost in itself so prepare yourself for it, for it is bound to become a highlight of your trip! Return to Val Gardena on skis via Arabba and Val Di Fassa. Day 5 ~ Kronplatz/Plan de Corones & Sexten/Sesto After breakfast, a 15 min panoramic flight takes you over Alta Badia valley and onto Kronplatz/Plan de Corones, a popular destination for skiers with its majestic 2,275-meter (7,464') peak standing out from the surrounding mountains. On the top of a wooded area, along the south side of the Pusteria Valley, it offers a 360-degree panorama of the entire surroundings. Admire the Concordial Bell located on the panoramic relief at the top of Kronplatz. The bell was cast by the foundry Oberascher in Salzburg and installed in 2003. The inscription translates God gives peace to the people and the bell can be heard every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 12 o clock. Also located at the top of Kronplatz is the new Reinhold Messner Mountain Museum "Corones", dedicated to the lives of mountaineers and climbers. The building, mostly underground, was designed by the world renowned architect Zaha Hadid. The museum opened in summer 2014. From the top of Kronplatz, ski down to Perca and connect to Sexten/Sexto by a modern and efficient train service and dedicate the second part of your day to discover this wonderful ski resort. Located in the east of the Dolomiti Superski area, at the feet of five imposing Dolomite peaks: Cima Nove, Cima Dieci, Cima Undici, Cima Dodici and Cima Una. Sesto offers 82km / 50,9 miles of perfectly grromed slopes with 31 lift facilities. Your return flight to Selva is one to remember, for the peaks of the "Tre Cime di Lavaredo" make up the stunning scenery found in Alta Val Pusteria. Tre Cime di Lavaredo literally means the three peaks of Lavaredo (also called the Drei Zinnen in German). These three distinctive battlement-like peaks from east to west are Cima Piccola/Kleine Zinne, Cima Grande/Große Zinne, and Cima Ovest/Westliche Zinne. The Tre Cime are perhaps the best most recognizable trio of peaks in the Dolomites, and certainly some of the most beautiful mountains! Day 6 ~ Departure After breakfast, a short helicopter flight takes you to your departure airport.
