Dates to note! Sep 7 Club Day Round 4 Dec 6 Proposed as Twilight Fun Fly Dec 20 Christmas do NOTICE of AGM The Yarra Valley Aeromodellers Inc Annual General Meeting will be held on July the 28 th at the Red Earth Centre, Bryces Ave. Mooroolbark. Commencing at 8.00 PM. Presidents Report Hello YVA members one and all and welcome to the July edition of YVA news Well since I last wrote the cooler weather has really set in and the winter season has begun with lavish snow falls in the Alps and close to 0 or sub 0 temps in the Yarra Valley. Entry road maintenance Entry road maintenance has commenced with myself and Dave Nichols completing some temporary repairs by way of filling in the major pot holes on the road and around the club house and pits areas. We will postpone the road grading activity until the warm weather returns. Mower maintenance New drive belt and tension pulley system was fitted to the mower by myself and Dave Nichols, having received a report from Roger that there was trouble occurring. This solved the problem with the mower and highlighted the need to spray the bearings with CRC after each cleaning to extend their life. Club House lock By the time this news letter reaches your table we should have new locks fitted to the club house and gate. 14/15 Committee nominations. If you have an interest in serving on the committee and feel you can contribute to the management of the club, nomination forms will be attached in this news letter. At this stage I am pleased to report that the current committee members are happy to continue in their current roles and will be renominating for their positions once again. Club competition Round 3 July 2014 Our secretary will provide a detailed report later in this news letter Continued Over.

Presidents Report Continued Property Lease I have been able to progress the property lease agreement to final draft and once signed report its conclusion. Some key points to note for the membership are as follows; It is hereby agreed and understood that the primary purpose of the property is a working cattle farm and private airstrip and that at all times these uses have absolute priority over the use of the leased area by the lessee (YVA) with or without notice by the landlord (Dilkusha Park Stud Pty Ltd). It is agreed that the lessee (YVA) shall offer the landlord (Dilkusha Park Stud Pty Ltd) a minimum of one annual working bee to assist with farm maintenance or tree planting as agreed by the parties. Subject to climatic or field conditions, (Total Fire Bans, flood, raining, road damage etc) or Government Authorities ruling, the field is to be available every day of the year for flying unless the land lord directs otherwise. Any changes in times or days, must have the approval of the Landlord (Dilkusha Park Stud Pty Ltd) It is the responsibility of the Lessee (YVA) to make sure the site is used within the Local Council Permit conditions.- i.e. Applications, Approvals etc to be processed by Lessee (YVA). It is also the responsibility of the Lessee (YVA) to make sure the site is registered with the Victorian Model Aircraft Association (VMAA) as an official model flying field. The Lessee (YVA) is responsible for all ongoing maintenance of the property for which it occupies and facilities at the Lessees' (YVA) expense, including the access road. The Lessee (YVA) will require Landlords (Dilkusha Park Stud Pty Ltd) written approval to any development works at the field. This includes but not limited to, changes to the layout of the field, (runways, car parks, etc) buildings or landscape. The Lessee (YVA) will be required to instigate a visitor s policy to allow Victorian Model Aircraft Association (VMAA) affiliated members that are not members of the Lessee (YVA) to fly at the field. The Lessee (YVA) has the control, with verbal notification to the landlord (Dilkusha Park Stud Pty Ltd), to close the field for YVA activities on short notice if in the opinion of the Lessee (YVA) the field, property, or road, would be extensively damaged if used. A representative of the Lessee (YVA) is to attend any formal meetings as required by the landlord. The Lessee (YVA) is to be affiliated with the Victorian Model Aircraft Association (VMAA) and the Model Aircraft Association of Australia (MAAA) and as such is responsible for compliance with the MAAA guide lines on Club operation. This affiliation of the Lessee (YVA) insures all current financial members are covered by the association s Insurance policy These conditions are by no way onerous and have been unofficially recognised as how we have operated in the past. Stay tuned, more to follow on this subject. Happy Landings; See you at the next club meeting which is our 2014 AGM Jon Goudge (President) Secretaries/Editors Report Well, the weather is not friendly to either modellers or Builders currently. So progress on any of my projects has been slow to non-existent However, these long, cold winter evenings do lend themselves to reading and research if nothing else (or watching the old BBC Series Piece of Cake on youtube It s amazing what you can find on the internet). One of the things I picked up during the last month was the magnificent CAD drawings and E-book by Paul Monforton Available for download purchase from Monforton Press http://www.monfortonpress.com/ The E-book is 19.95 USD and the CAD files are available in different scales from 20.50 USD to 24.95 USD. The CAD Files download as DWG files (The native Autocad file type) and the E-book down loads as a PDF File. Very detailed, but note These are purely surface detail and cockpit details. There are no structural details. But if you are building a Spitfire and want to get all the surface details right, then this is an invaluable resource! Highly recommended. Cheers, Hugh

World F4C Scale Championships Marmande, France. Most of you should be aware that David Law is representing Australia in at the F4C Scale World Chapionships in Marmande. The team is captained by Greg Lepp and from the look of the photos on their Facebook page, they are having a good time. Greg Lepp on the Left in the White T-Shirt and David Law in the Green Tank. But it s not all wine and cheese As I write, All the models have been test flown and are being prepared for static judging. Then the Flying starts! The weather in Marmande looks to be superb for scale flying over the next couple of days and all I can say is I wish I was there! Check out more photos on the next page

Check our Website for regular updates! (Thanks to Greg Lepp, Leslie Lepp, Mathew Law and Sharon Findlay for the Photos)

YVA Club Day Round 3 July 13 th 2014 What a show the gods put on for us this time around! Next to no wind, and a nice dry day with scattered cloud. A stark contrast to round two. Nevertheless, the only participants were the usual suspects. Here are some photos of the day to show you what you all missed out on! Left Daniel Goudge flew his nearly new (maidened only the day before) Seagull Pilatus Porter PC6 in the Fun Scale. Below David White brought out his Giant Stik (Great Planes I think) powered by an OS GT33 and spanning 82. It certainly sat in the air with Authority! Below No Club Day would be complete without David Nichols Flair Hanibal puttering around the sky. David seemed to have found his Mojo and did very well in the Fun Scale. (Photo - D. White) Left Euan Haig s Hobby King L4 Grasshopper has been scaled up a tad while he was recovering it Considering the low purchase price of this ARF, It certainly does seem to lend itself to the treatment that Euan has given it. Looks more like a lovingly scratch built model than a scaled up ARF! Well done Euan! (Photo D. White) Below Big and Little with Daniel Goudge s ministick and David White s Giant Stick for comparison. (Photo D. White) And of course, Jon Goudge s Miss Vintage did her regular service (Photo D. White). As usual, A sausage sizzle was held Thanks Adrian! The Onions were Superb! The next (and final round) is on September the 7 th. So mark it in your diaries NOW! See you all there.

Show and Tell (members brags from the June Meeting) Jon Goudge Marksman on Floats. Jon has had this Marksman for many years in fact it was instrumental in winning him the OS IL 300 at the OS engines day a few years ago when powered by an aging OS 48 Surpass. He has breathed new life into it with the fitment of a refurbished OS 46 AX that he picked up for next to nothing at last years Auction. Floats complete the picture ready now for the next Eildon weekend. Al Sea Hawk And more Float Planes Al spotted Adrian Whiter s Seahawk while visiting one evening and decided he just had to build one! So he got the plans copied and started building This is the result ot two evenings work. Al says he will be putting an ASP 91 FS in the nose. David Hyperson Dynam Waco. David got this Dynam Waco from that mob in Bayswater. He says it flies on 4s. But the lights are bloody useless! Looks nice though. A new Junior Member at the Club is Bill Wheelers Grandson Bailey. Welcome Bailey. Grand-dad was saying that he needed a trainer to learn on and one of our members just happened to have one going cheap! Bailey certainly won t go wrong with that (Once Grand-dad has helped him recover the wing and donated an engine)!

Report that we have an in principle lease agreement acceptable to both the Waters family and the YVA Committee. Suggestion for a gold coin donation from flyers in order to contribute to the lease payment. Most members agree that this is a good idea. Moved. Carried. GA Procedure has been released and is published on the Club Website. AGM July Meeting. Jon reminded members that they can all nominate for the committee. Norm asked that we have a method of securing the shed door open while the mower is in use. Also, members asked to consider a method of putting the electric fence up with less hassle. Show and Tell Jon Goudge Marksman on Floats. Al Sea Hawk (Built in two days so far) destined for a 90 FS. David Hyperson Dynam Waco. Flies on 4s. He says the lights included are bloody useless.
