Hostels for Earthquake Orphans GIRLS HOSTEL IN CHITWAN DISTRICT Pic: Girls in the hostel doing their regular homework Currently, 16 girls are housed and served in a temporary hostel in a rented building in Bharatpur in anticipation of the construction of a new hostel building. Land 0.14 acres (6288 sq. ft.) for the construction of new hostel building at Bharatpur has been purchased. towards the temporary Girls' Hostel. 100 girls who are rendered poor, orphaned or displaced due to the April 2015 Earthquake are to be housed here. Volunteers of Tees-Hajari Nagarik Sachetana Kendra (a local organization working for Women's Awareness) visited the hostel and served the children staying there. On eve of Baal Diwas (Children's Day in Nepal) volunteers from a local organization named Tees- Hajari Nararik Sachetana Kendra visited Girls Hostel in Bharatpur and served the children staying therein. They cleaned the hostel and its surroundings, cooked and served the children, washed their cloths, bed-covers etc. and later organized a talent show program involving the children. HOSTEL AT LOTHAR, CHITWAN DISTRICT Lothar Village Development Corporation (VDC) is one of the remote VDCs of Chitwan District inhabited mostly by the poor tribal Chepang community. Sewa has acquired 0.63 acres (27,380 sq.ft.), of land for building a hostel for orphaned Chepang children. For construction of Hostel, Sri Prem Thulung of Janajati Kalyan Ashram have talked and hired Architect Engineer Binod Dhakal to prepare Drawings and Estimates. Meanwhile, a plan is structured to use a multipurpose house in rent near the construction site as a temporary hostel. HOSTEL AT NEELKANTH MUNICIPALITY, DHADING DISTRICT Progress in Construction: With the completion of masonry work for the ground-floor, concrete slab of the building is poured. In the next phase, pillar frames are to be erected for the first floor. Meanwhile, until the construction work is over and the building is ready for running Hostel, 13 children are served in a temporary rented house. HOSTEL IN CHARIKOT, DOLAKHA DISTRICT A building has been acquired for running hostel at Charikot, Dolakha District. Currently we have 11 children. We expect that additional children to be released by the Government soon. Meanwhile, 3 sites have been shortlisted, of which one will be finalized and acquired for construction of the hostel. Paper works at District Administration Office, Office of District Child-welfare Committee, office of District Development Committee; District Education office is under process. HOSTEL IN NUWAKOT DISTRICT Land 0.13 acres (5476 sq. ft.) for the construction of boys' hostel at Nuwakot has been selected at Bidur Municipality. The same will be purchased by the end of October. Meanwhile, a building is rented to run temporary hostel in Bidur Municipality. Currently 10 boys are staying therein. Paperwork at District Administration Office, Office of District Child-welfare Committee, office of District Development Committee, District Education office are under process. Buddha Tamang 10 3 Remarks for the Hostel Projects We have received the necessary permission from the Nepal Government s 'Bal Kalyan Samiti' (Child Welfare Committee) for extending our hostel projects. We plan to establish Computer Centers in all the hostels after the hostel buildings are completed. 7 quake affected children from targeted districts are currently staying in Aama Ko Maya Chhattravas, Mulpani in Kathmandu run by Janjati Kalyan Ashram Nepal, HSS Nepal's partner in Rehab projects. They will be shifted to the hostels in their respective or nearby districts after the completion of construction. II. Schools As per our proposal for the construction of Schools in quake affected districts, we have by now purchased lands at: 1. Panchkhal Municipality of Kabhrepalanchok District. 2. Malekhu VDC of Dhading District. Panchkhal Municipality, Kabhrepalanchok District Land acquired for construction of Pashupati Shiksha Mandir (School) at Paanchkhal, Kabhrepalanchok District We have acquired 14 acres of land at Panchkhal of Kabhre District. The process for acquiring permission for building construction and running a residential school too is on. Land for the similar purpose is to be acquired at Sindhukot of Sindhupalchok District too.
