Cityscape Gulden-Vlieslaan 26 1000 Brussels http://wwwcityscapebe Quartier Louise, once Brussels' luxury district, lost a lot of its reputation over the last decades An association was founded to revitalise the neighbourhood A 5000 sqm wasteland site was put at the disposal of Belgian artist Arne Quinze (aka art director, furniture designer, interior decorator, creator of atmospheres) to bring life to the disconsolate district It took him 33 wooden stilts, 60 km of beams and 240000 nails to perform his task The result is a giant wooden sculpture, 40 m long, 25 m wide, 18 m high, described by the artist himself as "the capture of one moment in a form that is in full development" It is meant as an invitation to contemplation in this otherwise hectic neighbourhood, with the heavy traffic on the adjacent ring way But above all it attracts local residents, passers-by, visitors and tourists, chatting, playing, lounging in the ever-changing patterns of light and shade In a year from now, all the used wood will be fully recycled 9-2007 Artist Arne Quinze Brussels Louise vzw Kris_Leenders open 24/7 for the duration of one year from September 2007 onwards from Brussels South Station (Brussel Zuid/Bruxelles Midi), take the metro line 2 (direction Simonis), get off at Louiza/Louise http://wwwmimoaeu/users/arki_edlyn/guides/euro-trip-%2710%20bel/ 2
