Event Place and Date The Hemispheric Meeting on Evaluation in Early Childhood Education is organized by the Organization of American States, in coordination with the government of Paraguay. The event will take place from August 29 th to September 2 nd, 2011 in Asuncion, Paraguay. A Sub-regional Meeting on Evaluation in Early Childhood Education will take place on August 29-30 th for the Caribbean, Andean, MERCOSUR, Central American and North American sub-regions. The Hemispheric meeting will take place from August 31 st to September 2 nd as part of the project: A Quality- Oriented Approach to the Assessment of Education: Monitoring the Commitment to Early Childhood Education. For a reservation to be confirmed, it must be accompanied by a valid credit card and expiration date. Reservation cancellations after the stipulated deadline will be subject to the rules of the international hotel industry or hotel policy. Failure to cancel a reservation or to arrive on the confirmed date will result in the total value of the entire reservation, or one night s stay depending on hotel policy, to be charged to the credit card provided. 4. Air Transportation Special guests, international organization representatives, and other participants must make their flight reservations as soon as possible directly with a travel agency or preferred airline. 5. Paraguay Entry/Exit Requirements We suggest that each participant verify the visa requirements for their respective country. The government of Paraguay requires the presentation of a passport with a minimum expiration date of 6 months, as well as a copy of the airplane ticket. Without exception, all international travelers must pay a US$32 exit tax at the airport. 6. Airport Arrival The event does not include transportation to and from the airport. It is recommended that guests use taxis from the Silvio Pettirozi International Airport in the city of Luque. The approximate cost of taxi transportation to the hotel area is US$ 25. 7. Participant Registration To register, participants must fill out the Registration Form attached to this Bulletin in Annex I, and return it to the OAS as soon as possible. Languages and Work Documents Working sessions will be conducted in Spanish and English, with simultaneous interpretation. Documents, however, will be drafted in their original language. Only strictly necessary documents will be printed, observing the print on demand policy s attempt to reduce paper consumption. 9. Medical Assistance Participants are recommended to have health insurance with international coverage.
11. Security Security services will be provided for the duration of the meeting. However, it is recommended that participants exercise caution with their personal belongings. 12. Information of Interest a. Schedules Office hours generally run from 8:00am to 8:00pm Monday to Friday, and 10:00am to 8:00pm on Saturdays. Banks are open Monday to Friday from 8:00am 1:00pm. Most government offices work from Monday to Friday between 7:00am to 5:00pm. b. Currency The official currency in Paraguay is the Guaraní, and the current exchange rate (July 13 th ) is approximately G 4010 per U.S. dollar. All international credit cards are accepted. Participants are recommended to exchange their own currency at the airport in Paraguay or at foreign exchange businesses close to the hotels. c. Local Time In August/September, Asuncion is one hour behind that of Washington DC. d. Weather In August/September, Asuncion is cold/cool in the morning and warm in the afternoon.
