Memorandum of Understanding signed for Strategic Partnership with Airports of Thailand August 31, 2014 (NKIAC) and the Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Strategic Partnership on Friday, August 29, 2014. The AOT was established in 2002. Since then, it has been managing and operating six major airports in Thailand, including Suvarnabhumi International Airport, which is centered on full-service carriers, and Don Mueang International Airport in Bangkok, which is centered on low-cost carriers. Japan s visa waiver program for short-stay Thai visitors started on July 1, 2013. The number of Thai visitors has been increasing rapidly since then. The number of Thai visitors to Japan via New Kansai International Airport amounted to approximately 100,000 in 2013, which was 1.8 times as large as that in 2010. NKIAC and AOT will form a strategic partnership beyond the framework of a sisterhood relationship. Then both companies will proactively conduct co-marketing for airlines, joint promotional activities to introduce shopping information at the airports, and information exchange in pursuit of expanding the number of passengers at both ends, while aiming at aviation network reinforcement and further improvements in their airport strategies, and continue increasing their business values. For this partnership, President Keiichi Ando commented as follows: It is our pleasure that we have recently concluded a Memorandum of Understanding on Strategic Partnership with the Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT). We have already partnered with Vancouver Airport in Canada, Gold Coast Airport in Australia, and Leipzig-Halle Airport in Germany. The Memorandum of Understanding with AOT is our first partnership with an Asian airport company that is remarkably growing. Thailand is the world s 10th greatest inbound tourist country where 26.5 million foreigners visit annually. Japan is currently making efforts to increase the number of foreign visitors to 20 million by the end of 2020, and we consider that it is very meaningful for us to learn from AOT s experience in the management of airports as gateways to Thailand. Both of us operate two airports in our respective metropolitan areas, and provide services to satisfy full-service carrier (FSC) and low-cost carrier (LCC) requirements. In this respect, we would like to share the know-how and challenges of both companies proactively and develop together. Please look forward to both companies efforts in the future.
