Section 1: About Cardiff Airport Cardiff Airport Cardiff Airport is wholly owned by the Welsh Government and is the national Airport of Wales. The Airport was purchased in March 2013 by the Welsh Ministers from its previous owners Abertis after a number of years of decline in passenger numbers. It is located just 13 miles from the M4 motorway and about 30 minutes form the City Centre. As a gateway linking Wales to the rest of the world, over 50 direct routes are available from the Airport to UK and international destinations and a further 900 connections via hubs in Amsterdam, Barcelona, Dublin, Munich, Milan and Paris. The Airport has enjoyed 19 months of consecutive growth, with passenger numbers increasing by 18% over the past 12 months to 1.34M Cardiff Airport is the only airport in Wales offering international scheduled fl ights serviced by scheduled, low-fare, business and charter carriers; and supporting corporate and general aviation. The Airport operates on a 24/7 basis, 365 days per year. Its runway is 2,392m long and is capable of supporting the biggest passenger aircraft. 18 airlines currently make use of the Airport facilities including KLM, Flybe, TUI, Thomas Cook, Vueling, British Airways and RyanAir. Cardiff Airport has 17 aircraft stands and 4,000 surface car park spaces. In addition to cargo buildings and a fire and rescue station, it has facilities for corporate aviation and a flying school. The Airport is a zero waste to landfi ll business and in 2015 was recognised by the AOA as the top UK airport for its environmental initiatives.
