The 19 th IALA Conference World Lighthouse Heritage 18 th MAY 2017 Dear IALA National members, Subject: Request for the Participation in the World Lighthouse Heritage In May of 2018 the Republic of Korea and IALA will host the World Lighthouse Heritage in Incheon, Korea. The will illustrate the technology, materials, industries, and architecture involved with lighthouses over the centuries, and the impact on society and the environment. It will take place during the XIX th IALA Conference and will be open without entry fee to Conference participants and the public. The is open to all IALA members to send exhibition material and we hope to receive a positive response from you to ensure a good geographic and technical representation of the historical lighthouse heritage. The organisers will provide the necessary exhibition stands, visitor control barriers and staff. An IALA member sending exhibition material will be responsible for the transport costs of that material, but may apply for the limited financial support available from Korea for exhibition artefacts which it judges to be of highest significance. If exhibition material is donated to Korea then Korea will cover the reasonable cost of transportation and insurance to Korea, and will display the artefacts permanently in the Korea National Lighthouse Museum with the name and country of the donor organisation. Explanatory Note on the World Lighthouse Heritage 1. Programmes a. booths for large exhibits ( Area 1) - area equipped with well-fitted stands and lighthouse heritage experts from national members to be on stand-by to give immediate answers to questions and hand out exhibition catalogues or promotional literature b. booths for small exhibits ( Area 2) - area for national members who submit small exhibits, e.g. photographs, videos, documents, books, artefacts, etc., encapsulating their lighthouse history or their relevance to lighthouses c. Host Country Booth - Collection of lanterns, rotating beacons and lenses - Collection of world-wide lighthouse stamps and coins - Selection of light source technology artefacts - Lighthouse media art works d. IALA Booth - Designed to explain IALA s heritage aims and work, and introduce the IALA Heritage Forum to new members - Copies of the IALA Conservation Manual will be available e. Event Stage - Public lectures, Presentations, and Talks on aspects of lighthouse heritage 2. Benefits and Cost for the a. Well-fitted stands to exhibits displayed in area 1 & 2 will be provided free of charge by the host organisation for the World Lighthouse Heritage. Glass covers and retractable belt posts will be also provided to keep exhibits safe. In addition, the host organisation will supply assistant staff free of charge for the period of exhibition. b. If an IALA member donates heritage items to the host country, Korea will cover reasonable fees related to transportation, insurance, and related costs. Without such a donation condition, it would be within each exhibitor s responsibility to cover transport costs. However, in the case of a highly significant heritage item for the exhibition, as judged solely by the host country, it is possible to get support those for transport costs from Korea.
