Welcome to, a family-friendly city that strives to preserve its historic charm and appeal while also offering attractions, assistance and amenities that one might only expect from much larger localities. Everexpanding and improving, The Strawberry City works hard at preserving a strong sense of community, making it an ideal place for citizens to reside and for businesses to thrive. In addition, a prominent interest in the public and its safety is prevalent, with its ongoing support of its district fire stations, emergency medical services, police department, sheriff s division and state patrol facilities. Beautifully and well-situated close to lakes, rivers, mountains and Puget Sound, (and its environs) lies about 40 miles north of the metropolitan area of Seattle and about 75 miles south of Canada, where metropolitan Vancouver, British Columbia, begins, with the city itself only 20 miles further from there. Neighboring the sovereign Tulalip Reservation, as well as Interstate 5 and State Routes 528 and 9, the area is a natural crossroads of Snohomish County and northwest Washington, allowing convenience and efficient access to all major regional points and beyond. The area is a clear example of vibrancy, diversity and growth, with highly varied businesses and strengths in all sectors (including manufacturing, retail, tourism, construction, agriculture, education and technical occupations). With a population of more than 57,000 (as well as more than 30,000 more from its surrounding areas), a school district that serves more than 12,000 students from, Tulalip and surrounding areas and a healthy job growth rate over the last decade, confirmation continues that our city and region demonstrates quality and success to ventures of many types.

With numerous parks, playgrounds, trails and fishing areas, the area offers a wide-range of activities and events for the young and young-at-heart alike. Included for enjoyment are batting cages, a roller and skateboard park, 18-hole and miniature golf courses, horseback riding, bowling alleys, hiking trails, tennis courts and a public swimming pool. Events also include free park concerts, an outdoor public market, the August Homegrown Arts and Crafts Show, the Christmastime Merrysville for the Holidays and the renowned Strawberry Festival and Parade, held every June. This event helps celebrate 's earned moniker, The Strawberry City, from its historically flourishing and abundant agricultural production of strawberries and raspberries. Due to its strategic position, tucked at the base of Mount Pilchuck National Forest and several fresh and salt water locales, s location provides year-round opportunities for camping, fishing, hiking, skiing and boating. Gaming, restaurants, antique and bargain hunting and cinemas are also widely available yearround via its bustling Downtown 3rd Street and numerous surrounding retail centers, including Lakewood Crossing, 64th Street Plaza, Gateway Shopping Center, the Mall and the adjacent Quil Ceda Village in the community of Tulalip.

Bordered on the west and south by Puget Sound waterways and the east by Interstate 5 and the city of, the 22,000-acre Tulalip Reservation is a quickly growing, in size, population and regional influence, point of north Snohomish County. The Tulalip Tribes, a consortium of the Snohomish, Skykomish and Snoqualmie tribes, as well as other bands, became one at the signing of the Treaty of Point Elliot on January 22, 1855. This integrally led to the official formation of the reservation. In 1936, Harold L. Ickes, U.S. secretary of the interior, approved the Tulalip Constitution, leading to the national sovereignty of the Tulalip Tribes and their first elected Board of Directors. As previously mentioned, the Tulalip Reservation is an officially recognized sovereign nation. It has a ratified constitutional government, both adopted by the people and ratified by Congress. Continuing today to be comprised of a seven-member Board of Directors, one member each year is elected by its General Council, which is made up of all tribal members 18 years of age and older, to serve as Tribal Chairman. (Interestingly, this makes the Greater Tulalip Chamber of Commerce, at this writing, the only Chamber of Commerce in the world that officially serves two nations.) Having abundant marine and fresh water outlets, creeks and lakes, wetlands and other natural resources, especially developable land, the Tulalip Tribes have made good use of such, developing numerous venues including the four-star Tulalip Casino, Hotel and Resort (and its fine dining and entertaining venues within), Bingo Hall, Quil Ceda Creek Casino and Nightclub and Tulalip Amphitheater, as well as outstanding shopping centers including Quil Ceda Business Park and Entertainment Center, Quil Ceda Village and Seattle Premium Outlets. Other ventures

include natural resource development, healthcare services, golf courses, a marina and cable television. And, taking part in the July 4th spirit, their Boom City stands are well known as the place to go for the sale of a wide variety of fireworks for its celebration. The Tulalip Tribes efforts have been often noted locally, regionally and beyond, and they are today recognized as among the most forward-thinking and progressive Native American tribes both in the U.S. and internationally. Rising from their modest business beginnings in 1939, leasing their lands for non-tribal homes, the Tulalip Tribes are today among the largest employers in Snohomish County. This progressive nature is and will be well-chronicled for the future by their historical concern for the past. Examples of their documentation include the Tulalip Tribal Center and Longhouse, located on the shores of Tulalip Bay, which contain many historic artifacts and displays, including totem poles, canoes and the Hibulb Cultural Museum & Natural Preserve. Cultural activities open to the public also abound. These events include Treaty Days, an evening of traditional spirit songs and dancing held each January at the Longhouse; the Veterans Pow Wow, three days of competitive dancing held in June; and the annual First Salmon Ceremony and Parade, also in June, in honor of the first salmon caught. Other protected landmarks include Saint Anne s Catholic Church and the Tulalip Shaker Church, each well over 100 years old. The welfare of the present and future are acknowledged as well. An example of this is the Bernie Kai Kai Gobin Hatchery, built in 1982, which has thus far released more than 200 million salmon into Puget Sound. This hatchery is open to the public year-round.

Is this the best of all worlds? Perhaps, as a regularly growing number definitely think so. There is, enterprising and vibrant, with its own original, relaxing, eclectic, laid-back style that seems to appeal to all. There are the Tulalip Tribes, which provide an up-and-coming place that brings a first-class, big-time atmosphere in numerous areas, including gaming, entertainment and retail, adding new dimensions to our area. There are the events, activities, sports and shopping venues that everyone enjoys. There is the pleasant climate, almost never too hot or cold. While it may rain a bit at times (after all, this is the Pacific Northwest), even this meteorological aspect has attracted a large contingent of fans. And as our population and visitors grow, people seem to have been coming to like conclusions. The Greater Tulalip area is an outstanding locale to see, have an extended visit and stay. Once again, welcome.
