PowerBoat Guide Description A good-looking small yacht with a distinctive profile, the Californian 38 Motor Yacht is built on a conservative low-deadrise hull with moderate beam, a three-quarter-length skeg keel, and relatively flat aftersections. Hull construction is solid fiberglass. Her floorplan is arranged with double berths fore and aft, and both heads are fitted with separate stall showers. If the salon dimensions are somewhat limited, the master Stateroom is quite roomy for a 38-footer. A sliding deck access door is adjacent to the lower helm station--a worthwhile feature. Two variations of this layout were available: one with the galley down and the other with the galley in the main salon. Hinged steps in the forward companionway provide access to a particularly welldesigned engine room with good working space outboard for the motors. A bow pulpit, radar arch, teak handrails, and a swim platform were standard.
