Carnival 2015 Welcome to Paradise Carnival capital of the world! B razil is the fifth largest country in the world, and is home to just over 201 million people. Portuguese is the official language of Brazil, and the capital city is Brasilia. Brazil is home to some of the world s most magnificent natural phenomena- including the waterfalls at Iguazu, the rich, diverse, and largely unexplored Amazon rainforest, and the incredible wildlife of the Pantanal wetlands. Only in the south of the country are there extreme seasonal changes as found in Europe and North America. For the remainder of the country, the temperature ranges from 70 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit, irrespective of the season. The summer months are between December and February, and the rains are heaviest between March and August. Rio de Janeiro does not have a distinct rainy season. Brazil hosts a number of festivals throughout the country, including the world famous Carnival celebration in Rio de Janeiro. Rio de Janeiro, population 6.43 million, is located along the southern coast of Brazil, and is home to some of the world s most beautiful and pristine beaches including the Copacabana and Ipanema beaches. In addition to its white sandy beaches, Rio hosts the largest Carnival celebration in the world. The highlight of the event is the Samba Parade. The parade is a fierce competition between Rio Samba schools, and it combines ornately decorated floats with beautifully costumed dancers. The streets become alive with music, dancing, and food. The five day Carnival celebration in Rio is an event everyone should experience at least once in their lives! 2 P a g e
