Important Patrol Roster Information On behalf of the Management and Lifesaving committees of BMD Northcliffe SLSC I would like to thank you for giving up your time volunteering to keep Northcliffe beach safe for all to use. PATROLS Please find below the Patrol Timetable for the 2014-15 patrol season. A patrol teams list is also attached. Take five minutes now and check to see which patrol team you are in as it may have changed from last season. Please check your mobile and email details and advise any changes. A major change this season is the reduced number of patrol teams from 17 to 12. This change now means we have 12 very strong teams with lots of leadership, essential awards and team numbers. A total of 12 teams means each patrol is rostered on every second weekend. (DON T PANIC WE ARE NOT ASKING YOU TO PATROL EVERY SECOND WEEKEND) The expectation is that you attend one of your rostered patrols each month. For this new format to work well for everyone, communication will be the key. At your first patrol which is compulsory for all members to attend to complete proficiency a member from your patrol team will go through the patrol roster and ask everyone to commit to at least one patrol per month. If for some reason you can no longer make this commitment you will need to swap with a team member for another rostered date. Each patrol team has enough members to always have enough award holders on the beach. This should eliminate the need to find a substitution, as each patrol team should be self-reliant. It is your responsibility to make sure you attend a rostered patrol each month. For those who compete you must ensure you have gained your minimum of 25 hours patrolling by 31 December, 2014.

Failure to turn up to one rostered patrol per month will result in a penalty patrol as well as a makeup patrol. The dates for make ups and penalties are at the discretion of the Club Captain. Failure to attend two patrols (including a rostered, makeup or penalty) will incur the member appearing before the Life Saving Committee. The recommended penalty from the Life Saving Committee for unsubstantiated absences from patrols is a minimum one month s suspension from all club involvement. PATROL AGREEMENT REMEMBER COMMUNICATION IS THE KEY Each season the club is required to enter into a patrol agreement with Surf Life Saving Queensland which outlines our obligations to provide patrols on the beach. The patrol roster has been put together to meet this obligation. It is very important for you to help us meet this obligation by turning up to your patrols as rostered. This way we can ensure an efficient patrol operation here at BMD Northcliffe and the work load is shared. Full uniform MUST be worn. Shirt, shorts, cap and a red hat, preferably a full brimmed hat. Shirt, shorts and broad brim hats are provided free of charge. Caps and peak hats can be purchased from the surf club. Club togs or red swimwear must be worn. All rostered, substitute, make-up and penalty patrols MUST BE COMPLETED IN FULL (Full hours or NO hours). All voluntary patrols are a minimum of 3 hours. Your Patrol Captain is in charge of the beach on the day and has the authority to ask you to leave your patrol for any breaches of the SLSC Patrol Policy and code of Conduct. Please ensure

you give your full co-operation whilst carrying out your patrol duties. If you need to leave the patrol for any reason you must seek permission from your Patrol Captain. ATV/TRACTOR USE The ATV (All-terrain vehicle) is only to be used by patrolling members that hold a QLD drivers license and have fulfilled the induction requirements of the ATV. The patrol captain is in charge of the ATV at all times, and can only be used if permission is granted. The ATV can only be used for roving patrol and is only permitted 400m either side of the flagged area. The Tractor is only for use by patrolling members that hold a QLD drivers license and have fulfilled the induction requirements of the Tractor. PROFICIENCIES To be conducted with each patrol on their first patrol of the season. For the first 2 weekends of patrol you will notice start/finish times are longer to accommodate your patrol team to complete their proficiency. It is vital that you attend your first patrol or make arrangements to swap with another member so your proficiency is completed over these first 2 weekends of the patrol season. Prior to attending your first patrol & proficiency you will need to complete: 1. PAY MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL (Online @ lifesavingonline.com.au or at the club) 2. ONLINE PROFICIENCY PAPER (Now called Skills Maintenance) see details below (Please note that SRC S are NOT required to complete an online proficiency paper this year) 3. BLUE CARD (WORKING WITH CHILDREN) must be current. All members 18 and over must hold a valid Blue Card.

POOL SWIM Has changed this year, pool swim is only required if member is not currently proficient. If required, please contact Caroline Fildes or Lea Cooke to arrange your pool swim. ONLINE PROFICIENCY PAPER 1. Go to lifesaving online website: https://www.lifesavingonline.com.au 2. Log in using the user name and password you set up for last year proficiency (if you didn t complete online last year, select create an account, and you will then be sent user and password details by email or sms), once received log on and start over. 3. Select My courses in the header bar, select that you will be studying in Qld from drop down box, then select Go to online learning now 4. Double click Skills Maintenance (Proficiency) 2014/15 icon 5. Double click on Module 1- Instructions and Bronze Questions 6. Complete the online proficiency paper as follows: ALL BRONZE MEDALLION HOLDERS: Module 1 RESUS/FIRST AID ONLY: No online proficiency required this year IRBC & IRBD: Modules 1 & 2 Once you have finished your required modules Bronze only will show 50% completion and Bronze/IRB will show 100% completion. This will then be sent in a report to us at the club, no need to print anything out. AWARD TRAINING Attached is the award/training calendar for the season, the club would like all members to complete a new award each season, so our skills build so please take a look as see which session you can attend. ANY ISSUES CONTACT LEA COOKE OR CAROLINE FILDES AT THE CLUB.
