JULY EVENTS ON TEXEL 2017 On Texel, you won t be bored for a minute! Throughout the year, there are lots of special events to enjoy on the island. From a fun jumble sale in Den Burg, the Half Marathon of De Waal to the biggest catamaran race in the world: the Round Texel Race. Below you can find an overview of all the events taking place on the island from July to December 2017 inclusive. Saturday 1 July - SOMMELTJESPOP DE WAAL The most relaxed festival in the Netherlands. Tuesday 18 to Sunday 23 July incl. DE KOOG FAIR Over 20 attractions, from small to big, set up at the Nikadel car park on the edge of the village centre. Saturday 8 July and Sunday 9 July 2017 SUNBEATS PAAL 17 Dance barefoot in the sand until the stars fall from the sky during SunBeats on the beach at Paal 17. SunBeats is the place to be for dance music lovers. More information: sunbeats.nl Wednesday 12 to Sunday 16 July DEN BURG FAIR Family fair with small and big attractions. The event closes on Wednesday evening with a spectacular fireworks display on the grounds next to the fair. Thursday 20 July TILT AT THE RING DEN HOORN Old-fashioned village entertainment in Den Hoorn where participants in horse-drawn carriages have to spear a ring with a lance. Wednesday 26 July TILT AT THE RING DEN BURG Old-fashioned village entertainment in Den Burg where participants in horse-drawn carriages have to spear a ring with a lance. Thursday 13 July TEXEL SHEEP FAIR A day of sheep shearing, various demonstrations and admiring different breeds of sheep. Saturday 15 July FIRST AUTOCROSS Roaring engines and great spectacle: twice a year, in July and August, autocross races are held on the course in Eierland. Thursday 27 July AGRICULTURAL FAIR NEAR DEN HOORN Demonstrations, livestock shows, a farm machinery show, but also a market, pony riding and lots more fun activities.
Sunday 6 August TILT AT THE RING DE KOOG Old-fashioned village entertainment in De Koog where participants in horse-drawn carriages have to spear a ring with a lance. Friday 28 July and Saturday 29 July BEACH FOOD FESTIVAL OUDESCHILD Dozens of food trucks, beach huts, beanbags and parasols create a real summer party atmosphere. Chefs from Texel and all over the Netherlands prepare the most delicious dishes using local produce. More information: beachfoodfestival.nl AUGUST Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 August HORIZONTOER FESTIVAL Over a period of five to ten days, musicians and theatre performers visit Texel, Terschelling, Vlieland and Ameland. Admission to performances is free or a small charge may apply. Saturday 12 August HAVENVISTIJN OUDESCHILD Learn all about fishing techniques and different types of fish from Texel s fishermen. There are demonstrations and music and, of course, lots of fresh fish. Zaterdag 12 augustus HED KANDI BEACH HOUSE PAAL 17 Dance event with the best summer hits of the Hed Kandi dance label. With its fabulous views, Paal 17 is the place to enjoy the summer beats of DJs and live artists. Sunday 6 August 2017 EAGLES SUMMER EVENT NEAR DEN BURG Western spectacular at the Eagles Ranch with dazzling shows, a market with Texel products, games and activities for children, live music, line dancing and horse football. Saturday 19 August STRENDERPOP OOSTEREND Small pop festival with a great atmosphere, fantastic music and fine weather. More information: strenderpop.nl Sunday 20 August SECOND AUTOCROSS Roaring engines and great spectacle: twice a year, in July and August, autocross races are held on the course in Eierland. Sunday 27 August CAR BOOT SALE DEN BURG From 9:00 till 13:00, you can enjoy strolling around car-boot stalls selling second-hand items at the car park at Emmalaan (entrance opposite the VVV tourist information office). SEPTEMBER Friday 25 to Sunday 27 August incl. FLY-IN CINEMA Come to Texel s airfield in your plane and watch a film from your cockpit or the wing! The film starts at around 22:00. Advance tickets and info via Texel Airport. Friday 25 and Saturday 26 August TROPICAL SEA FESTIVAL Ten hotel and catering establishments in Dorpstraat invite you to enjoy live performances and sets by DJs in a tropical atmosphere. Caribbean music, reggaeton or Dutch music: there s something for everyone. Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 August KITESURF WEEKEND On the day with the best wind conditions, boardercross and hangtime competitions are held on the beach at Paal 17. You can register on the day of the event in the tent on the beach at Paal 17. Monday 4 September ANNUAL TEXEL SHEEP SHOW Annual sheep show, held on the first Monday in September at Groeneplaats in Den Burg. Friday 8 to Sunday 10 September incl. TEXEL CULINAIR DE KOOG Over a period of three days, about 100 different small dishes are prepared by chefs of more than 30 Texel restaurants, food pubs, eateries and catering companies. Saturday 9 september FISH-SMOKING COMPETITION IN OOSTEREND The annual Strender fish-smoking competition of gurnard and small sole returns to the centre of Oosterend. Saturday 16 September HORSE DRIVING TRIAL Beautiful course and spectacular obstacles. Central location is Manege Akenburg. OCTOBER Sunday 1 October MTB CROSS-COUNTRY RACE Discover the most beautiful MTB trails on Texel during an autumn cross-country race: single tracks, nature reserves, dunes, farmland and beach. With start from the ferry! Distances: 30 or 50 km. Sunday 24 September TEXEL HALF MARATHON The Texel Half Marathon is known for its special start from the ferry. There is also a 6k and a 10km race. More information: texelhalvemarathon.nl Saturday 30 September and Sunday 1 October WIND FESTIVAL DE KOOG Two-day festival on the beach at Paal 20. The sky above the beach at the Koog will be filled with kites and show kites. Friday 13 to Sunday 15 October incl. NOVEMBER Friday 3 and Saturday 4 November WAANZIN TEXEL here is one thing every participant knows: It will be tough, it will be wet and it will be far. Friday 17 to Sunday 19 November incl. STRUUN Enjoy free music and performances during Struun Texel. More information: struuntexel.nl Saturday 18 November MTB BEACH RACE A tough 46.6 km MTB course partly across the beach and partly through the dunes. DECEMBER Tuesday 12 December OUDE SUNDERKLAAS Sunderklaas has nothing to do with St. Nicholas. As soon as darkness falls, the spectacle begins. In all the villages, topical Texel events are re-enacted. Saturday 16 December CHRISTMAS MARKET OOSTEREND Oosterend has a lovely tradition: the annual Christmas market on the Saturday following Ouwe Sunderklaas. Saturday 18 November ARRIVAL OF ST. NICHOLAS OUDESCHILD St. Nicholas and his helpers will be arriving by steamboat at 12:30. They will be welcomed by the mayor of Texel. Date subject to change/unofficial date.
