ROTARY ZONES 33/34 INSTITUTE October 24, 2015 OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES Air Force Armament Museum Tour The Air Force Armament Museum is the only museum in the world dedicated to the collection, preservation and exhibition of artifacts and memorabilia associated with Air Force Armament and its platforms of delivery. There are four aircraft in the building, each representing a specific war era: The P- 51 Mustang and the P-47 (WWII); the F-80 Shooting Star (Korean War); and the F-105 Thunderchief (Vietnam War). There are also 24 aircraft displayed on the grounds. In addition to the aircraft, there is a wide variety of guns, bombs, missiles and rockets including the AMRAAM and the GBU-28 bunker buster developed for use during Desert Storm. 1:00pm- Meet in the lobby of the Grand Sandestin. 1:15pm- Depart hotel. Seaside and 30A Tour Seaside was developed in 1980 as a planned, walkable community. Today it is recognized as the birthplace of the New Urbanism community development movement and the inspiration for other traditional neighborhoods taking shape across the country. The village consists of over 300 pastel cottages, picket fences, gardens, restaurants, shops, a nondenominational church, a school and its very own tiny post office. Wesley Mansion Tour and Gardens This interesting excursion includes a visit to charming Eden Gardens State Park to tour the historic Wesley Mansion and its beautiful gardens. The mansion, built in 1897, is a turn-of-the-century, fully restored Greek revival home featuring the country s second largest collection of Louis XVI Court furniture. The sweeping lawns on the banks of the Choctawhatchee Bay contain many beautiful gardens and statuary; 500-year old oak trees; and a large reflecting pool. Your guests will enjoy a tour of the mansion led by a Florida Park Specialist; the beautiful gardens and the quaint gift shop. 1:00pm- Meet in the main lobby of the Grand Sandestin 1:15pm- Depart hotel. Glass Bottom Boat/Dolphin Cruise The 65 glass-bottom boat will sail in the calm waters of the Choctawhatchee Bay, East Pass and the Destin Harbor. During the relaxing narrated cruise, the group will watch for dolphins and learn about Destin s local history. The boat s main deck is enclosed and temperature controlled. The upper deck is covered but not enclosed. There are clean restrooms on board.
