Air France-KLM and India: a shared history In 1929, KLM began serving Calcutta on the Amsterdam-Batavia route, the world s longest air route at the time. In 1955, KLM launched the Amsterdam-Delhi route, still in operation today. On 29 October 2017, KLM inaugurated the Amsterdam-Mumbai service operated by the latest-generation Boeing 787 aircraft. In 1947, Air France served Calcutta on its Paris-Saigon route and then, in 1955, launched its weekly nonstop Paris-Delhi service by Constellation. These more powerful aircraft required fewer stopovers. In the early 1960s, the Boeing that connected Paris to Tokyo stopped in New Delhi, the country s political capital. Air France continued to grow its activity in India, operating its first non-stop flight between Paris and Delhi in 1982. In 2005, the company connected Paris to the cities of Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad. Air France currently serves Bangalore, Delhi and Mumbai on departure from Paris-Charles de Gaulle.
