S U.S.-China Film Summit and Gala Now in its Seventh year, Asia Society Southern California s U.S.-China Film Summit is the most prestigious U.S. event uniting Hollywood and Chinese film-industry leaders to discuss collaboration and market trends. Since 2010, the Film Summit has led the conversation about U.S.-Chinese film co-production, cross-border investment and the integration of Chinese and American talent.
WHO ATTENDS? The Film Summit and Gala Dinner bring together prominent American and Chinese film-industry representatives who are interested in partnerships, distribution, financing, creative development, policy, and cultural issues relevant to the Hollywood-China relationship. As the Film Summit has grown some 500 people attended last year s conference and 330 attended the separate dinner so too has seniority of attendees. We attract top executives from Hollywood studios such as Sony, Fox, Universal and Warner Bros., and leading U.S. and Chinese entertainment firms, including CAA, IMAX, Wanda, Bona Film Group, Alibaba, Le Vision Pictures, Huayi Brothers, Weiying and iqiyi.
GALA HONOREE Wang Zhonglei Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Huayi Brothers Media, Wang will be honored for his film industry leadership. Huayi Brothers has been a pioneer building an entertainment conglomerate and leading collaboration with Hollywood, through investment and financing with STX Entertainment and the directors Joseph Russo and Anthony Russo.
GALA HONOREE Melissa Cobb Head of Studio and Chief Creative Officer of Oriental DreamWorks, Cobb will be honored for U.S.- China creative collaboration. She produced the Academy Award-nominated Kung Fu Panda movies, which grossed over $1.8 billion worldwide. Oriental DreamWorks is a joint venture created by DreamWorks Animation SKG, China Media Capital, Shanghai Media Group and Shanghai Alliance Investment Ltd.
GALA HONOREE Lu Chuan The award-winning writer and director will be honored for his critically acclaimed work, ranging from arthouse films to boxoffice hits to documentaries. His latest film, Born in China, a documentary about endangered wildlife, was coproduced with Disney, and Lu is working on his first Englishlanguage feature, River Town.
SUMMIT HONOREE Cao Baoping A writer and director, Cao will be honored for his storytelling, from his subtle exploration of human emotions to compelling crime dramas that are both dark and humorous. He has won awards in China and Europe and was selected by the Sundance Institute for its exclusive Screenwriters Lab. Cao graduated from the Beijing Film Academy and taught screenwriting there for many years.
TALENT SPOTLIGHT The 2016 Film Summit will highlight issues critical to the future of film and the Hollywood-China relationship: digital content, cutting-edge immersive entertainment, animation and the development of trans-pacific talent and finance.
