Improperly disposed batteries end up in landfills where they can leak toxic chemicals that pollute the land, air and water. It is also illegal to dispose of batteries in the regular trash. The Target stores have drop-off points at the customer service counters and the City picks up the batteries and safely recycles them. Did You Know... Did you know that recycling is one of the best and easiest ways to protect our environment? Here are a few numbers... Every ton of paper recycled saves approximately 17 trees. Recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy to run a TV set for three hours. Every glass bottle that is recycled saves enough energy to light a 100-watt light bulb for four hours. Recycling one ton of glass saves the energy equivalent of nine gallons of fuel oil. Please Recycle!
